Hello,
I got my gun back from smith and wesson after some muzzle damage was found after purchase inspection. They replaced the barrel so I decided that I would keep the gun (because it was a non-mechanical problem) and install an apex j-frame trigger kit!

Install was easy. The trigger is much more manageable but it feels a little notchy on the return. I popped it back open and polished the recoil slide top and bottom and the bottom of the trigger with 2000 grit paper. The notchyness is much less after the polish but still present. Is it notchy because the spring is weaker? It is only notchy is I release the trigger extremely slowly. To better explain it it feels like the m&p trigger feels on the pull, but on the j frame it sort of feels like that on the return.

Thank you

I just installed a couple of Apex kits, polished the recoil slides, and added some lubrication; I did nothing to the triggers.

I don't really notice any unusual sensation while releasing the trigger.

If your 442 has had little use, you might try dry-firing it so the parts "wear in" a bit. That's the approach I took with a new J-frame, and it helped smooth the trigger pull. I would think it would smooth the trigger return as well.
