Hi Folks

I a considering a 66-1 that is stamped SD Sheriff on the left side of the frame below the cylinder.

Is it worth to letter this revolver?

The pusher mentioned the previous owner was a retired
San Diego Sheriff officer. Could be since the shop is located in Southern California.

Or is there anything else working looking into.

Thanks

I would think a future buyer would appreciate it, and it may add some value.
The real value to me, if I owned it, was just knowing the story behind it.

A factory letter will only advise you of the revolvers configuration when it left the factory and where it was shipped to. You have a wonderful revolver but not one of any abnormal value or collectors interest. If you have an extra $50.00 burning a hole in your pocket order the letter, if not use the money to pay for some additional range time.

Unless you collect police-issue firearms, I can't imagine what value a letter could be. I'm with Old Bear. I would use the $50 for something else.

I'm glad this post came up, as I was about to pose a similar question about getting a letter for my 3-1/2" 27-2. It's not a police gun, or anything special. I just want to find out a little of its pedigree. I picked up the gun way cheap, so I may take the plunge. I definately see both sides of the coin.

I have a 19-7 2 1/2", stamped KY. D.O.C. Probation & Parole. I called S&W CS for some information about this gun. I gave the fellow I was talking to the serial number, and he was able to inform me the month and year this group of DOC guns were shipped by S&W. Just didn't know how many. You might give them a call for some free information about your gun. It may depend on who you talk to with CS. Good luck.
