To Re-Load or Not???

Welcome to the reloader's club Zip! The same guys that convinced you to reload, convinced me to reload. I don't have near the amount of reloading supplies in my pantry as others, I have enough to load what I need.

Dang Zip, you hit the ground running. A M&P 15, then right into the reloading thread! LOL

It really looks like the only components running low are those for .223 reloading. Plenty of Unique and Bullseye in stock to keep my handguns happy. haha

And since it doesn't appear that reloading components are being discussed in the latest anti-gun legislation talks any shortages should be gone once the panic-buying is over.

As I sit here contemplating how many ways I can cook a hot dog to eat over the next few months I contemplated what a crazy 2 months this has been...

Nov 3. Told a friend if Obama won I'd buy an AR. Always wanted one and feared a ban
Nov 7. Asked a few military buddies for a reco. Thank GOD they steered me to the Sport! Love my military friends!!

Shortly afterwards I was able to find one. KNEW I'd also need mags and a stockpile of M193. Bought a bunch of pmags at 11 a pop. Also found this forum with great people and great info! For a week at least one guy was thinking OMG will he leave me in peace! Lol got some great recos on my initial set up and other ammo sources...

THEN a weird feeling hit. I can only describe it as GET READY. Bought more ammo from freedom munitions and Natchez.

THEN that horrible day we all got sick over. I'm STILL sick about it. The next day back to midway USA for 3 more shipments of mags. .....but I still had that GET READY feeling (get ready as in buy it while you can). Started watching ammo vaporize. Knowing I'd be reloading asked about what was disappearing... Primers? Check. Bullets? Check. Powder? Check. As soon as I asked then ordered all those things were vaporizing. I'm very fortunate my girl loves shooting and supports me. Very glad we were both working extra hours to pay for Xmas and buy all this stuff without all of it being financed. Just grateful for so many things.

I love to shoot. Been shooting pistol and shotgun for years and after my Sport have a new love. I just could not bear to see it sit because I didn't want to use up my ammo!! So I am grateful.

I wonder if I inject hot sauce in a hot dog if it will taste better?? lol

I understand that after days of reading up. Based on your pm reco (thanks!) and Grover and my previous discussions I went with the H335. Ordered 8 pounds so I have enough for all my primers and bullets ordered. A risk? Sure... but considering there are no good local suppliers besides the very limited selection at bass pro I decided at least I could used a widely accepted powder for this first "round" and get them the best I can. After that I can experiment once the market stops going crazy. So I'm all in now!! No turning back!! I really think I'll enjoy it!!

You will love the H335 powder, it is great and not temperature sensitive. Another benefit of H335 is that you use less and that makes it cheaper. I am completely satisfied with it. I have a brand new unopened can of Varget, never tried it because H335 works so well for me. If you have any questions or want or need any help just ask.

Thanks for the laugh Grover I needed that! As far as "get a newb started" category I have you to thank more than anyone. Sorry for burning up your email! LOL

Good idea! It took me like 20 minutes to find 54 out of 56 brass. I was really pissed I lost 2. LOL

I use a brass catcher and a box under it to catch the brass and I also pick up any laying around unclaimed :D

They all about the same or are brass catchers not created equal? lol

Here is a link to a great brass catcher for your AR, a little pricy but it works great. I have their 1911 model for my Colt Gold Cup and love it.
E&L Manufacturing e.Store - Universal Brass Catcher

I have been using a bag type catcher that works fairly decent after I modified it with a partial gallon milk jug that I cut to fit inside the bag to hold it open.
I have the linked one above on my Christmas list for my Sport.

a little off topic

But I wanted to ask for you guys advice. I know this is a S&W forum but you guys seem to be very savy on all aspects of AR's.
About a month ago I seen a Colt match target competition AR with a 20" barrel and put it on lay away. Now everything has dried up around here and there is not an AR available anywhere except for the Colt I have on law away. The price is very good especially since the price jumps in the last couple weeks.
Would you guys go ahead and buy it or leave it on lay away until more information is out on what the government is going to do with a new AWB ?

I apologize if I asked this in the wrong area. ?

Rebs, I am having to back off any gun purchases or such until I see what the government is going to do. They have me honestly afraid of purchasing semi-auto rifles.

Grover, you shouldn't be thinking about what the government is going to do, but thinking about what we are going to allow them to do. But I know what you are saying. Now is the time to write call or email all your representatives and voice your concerns.
Personally I am having a hard time viewing my old Marlin semi auto 22 as an assault weapon. Or a Remington 1100 shotgun as an assault weapon.

Rebs, I do agree, especially with the old marlins, and my Model 60 has the really long tubular magazine I dont remember but it is like 19 shots. Hi Point has stayed away from magazines that hold over 10 and I believe its just for this purpose. I have some people that are interested in buying the lever action I have for sale but with gun prices fluctuating as they are if I sell it today and tomorrow the gun I want has doubled in price and then I cant afford it plus mine would have doubled in price also,.

Luckily I shoot at a club range that is nestled deep in the hills so displaying an AR will not cause liberal-leaning civilians to cry out in distress.

But I still may have to find a way to buy a .223 bolt action just in case...so I have something presentable to shoot my ammo in. hahaha.
