Tom Petty clings to life

Tom Petty makes my own personal lifetime top-10, I remember when I first considered myself a "big fan" of Petty, it was when "Running Down a Dream" hit the radio, I wanna say it was the 3rd single from Full Moon Fever, would have been probably 1989 I think? Obviously I knew Tom Petty by the time that album hit, I think I was 16, maybe 17. Three singles all from one album meant (to me!) that my eight bucks was a safe bet that I would like the whole tape.

I practically wore that tape out in the cheap tape deck in my car and like any normal "fan" I immediately went backward in assembling his catalog, I definitely bought Damn the Torpedos and Hard Promises next, I eventually compiled every studio album up to and including Wildflowers.

My favorite album?! Ugh, tough call. Probably Hard Promises or if I want to pick a lesser known, Into the Great Wide Open was fantastic, IMO.

Favorite song? Oh easy, that was "The Waiting"

Loved the video for "Don't Come Around Here No More" but more so, "You Got Lucky"

Saw him live just once... Maybe 1996? I remember that I felt like I got totally screwed by TicketMaster with no chance at close seats, we were seemingly a mile away and watching on TV through a blanket of weed smoke that I never wanted to be around.

I listened to Petty often on Sirius XM radio. He was very knowledgeable about the early days of rock and roll and spun records and talked about them like the best of the old time FM radio DJ's did. Sorry to hear about him.

Gang he's still here! Hang in their, Tom, HE will bring him back!! It is HIM who saves!!

Yep, just read in online on the LA Times. It is official, he has passed on. :(

Listening to some of his music right now.

Bad day just gets worse. Sad news...RIP Tom.
Your great music will live on to be enjoyed by future generations.

I walked into the record store.....

"My old man was born to rock, he's still tryin to beat the clock..."

Rest in peace, Mr. Tom Petty. One of the greats.

I'd usually browse all genres for an hour or two, but when I walked in they were playing something in the store. I walked up to the counter and said, "Whatever that is, I want it!"

Hmm, "Wildflowers"? Well, I know I like the sound. It's now one of my favorite albums.

RIP Tom Petty. Made some of my favorite music. My oldest son saw one of his last concerts in Seattle a couple of weeks ago. Sent me a text message to say how great it was and that I needed to see him. I'll never get the chance.

(Sadly I say R.I.P. Tom) I guess someone had it wrong in the news media.

Positive thoughts for him and his family.

One of the things I liked most about that video (besides the music) was the tribute to Roy Orbison - his guitar in the rocking chair and picture in the background. Too many members of that group have now left us.

Hate to say it, but he is gone.

So much great music, so many great songs from a Southern boy who hit the big time for real.

I hope he's up there now, playing with Roy and George again.

Rest In Peace, Mr. Petty.
