I just got the third tooth from the back(wisdom teeth still there) on the lower left side of my mouth pulled yesterday. Feels OK with meds, but looks like a dark purple bubble where the tooth was. It is set down in the hole. The tooth was just over an inch long. Rinsing with salt water and not disturbing it. Is this normal? Thanks

Sounds pretty much normal. Just try and not disturb the plug that forms there for a few days. It feels so good when it stops hurting. I never took the pain pills either. My dentist told me a bit of scotch was better anyway. Worked fine.

If your wife has a sense of humor, you might find a shiny quarter under your pillow in the morning. :)

On a serious note, expect to heal completely and the hole/depression to be around for a time. Eventually it will fill in, but until then it will be healed but "different".

I had 3 removed. Two came right out, but the third had to be quartered and dug out. Can't tell they were ever there all these years later.

If you put your tooth under your pillow the tooth fairy will leave you something, not sure what, I haven't done it in awhile

Buy some mouth wash. The coagulating blood will stink like you had trench mouth. Drinking booze thins your blood, so go easy on it for a while .

If it was one of your'in front teeths (preferably on the top) you'd now have free membership in any of the "social clubs" in my neighborhood. :)

You going for the implant or a bridge?

I had the same tooth pulled and replaced with an implant. Better than new. If the surrounding teeth are sound you need to do something with the empty space, otherwise the adjacent teeth will eventually be compromised and fail. My preference is the implant but they can run around $ 3000.00. In the meantime keep it clean. I use Biotene as a mouth rinse as well as Act 2X a day. Good luck.

Thanks fellas! Was laughing my tail off at some of the posts and wincing in pain while doing so. It was worth it. I'll check my options after the first of the year for filling the space. I'm bummed that I didn't keep the tooth as Dave suggested!! Woulda made a nice Corn-on-the-cobb holder...;)

Dang Son,

Whistle teeth in an elk's jaw ain't that big...;):D

Be sure to save it and make a stik-pin er sumthing out of it. :D

Hope yer feelin better soon.

Su Amigo,
Dave

Same material, really, as ivory.
Dave, think that one's big enough for a couple of grip inlays? Maybe ivory diamonds around the screw hole?
Maybe sell it to a carnival as a "Bigfoot tooth"???
:D

Tooth just pulled. What to expect?

Expect:
> a bill.
> your tongue and the gap to be playing "moth to flame" for a couple of years.
> chewing gum to occasionally go missing. Check there first.
> roasted peanuts to be rather difficult to grind on that side.

Hope this helps. ;)
:D

That "clot" you are referring to needs to be there to help with the healing, and pain reduction. I had two wisdom teeth pulled 6 weeks ago, and I was sore, not in pain, for a week or so Remember not to chew on that side and DO NOT get any food in the pocket. Sounds like you are right on track. Best of luck.
