The morning after a snow fall, I discovered tracks in the snow which came down our drive and around the back of the house and down the other side and into the woods. The paw print was about 3" from front to back, spaced about 28" - 30" apart and a single track. The rear paw was placed into the print of the front paw. I ruled out a large dog because when they walk, they dual track their prints. Foxes single track when walking but the prints were way too big for a fox. I've concluded that a coyote or wolf passed through my yard which would be very unusual for Eastern NC! I'm thinking about investing in one of those trail cameras.

Looking at this image only conclusion I can draw is either a hippopotamus or kangaroo.

In my neck of the woods 28-30 inches apart means mountain lion moving at a good clip. They are usually more like 24" at a steady walk and more like 3.5" in diameter. I'm thinking coyote at a good lope, although I don't usually see hind foot imprinted on front foot. Look for claw marks to distinguish canine from feline. Cats don't leave a claw mark and are more rounded. Otherwise, most assuredly Bigfoot :)

Edit to add: on second look, not a cat.

Sounds like a perfectly natural stride for a kitty of some size, bob or maybe bigger.

I saw similar tracks on the west side of my place a couple weeks ago, and then the closest neighbor told me last Thursday he had snared a 50-pound bobcat, biggest one either of us had seen. He's gorgeous, the bobcat, not my neighbor.

Friend I'm here to tell you and I mean no cause for alarm, but buddy that there is from a SQUATCH and by the looks of it a 12-1500 pounder at that! Probably has already learned the shape shifting arts at that power level. You need to be wary of each and every physical object within 20 miles of your current location.

Any one of them could be the SQUATCH!

:D

a One eyed one horned flying purple people eater with one leg. He it may even have a job at I hop. Or it a one legged medium sized big foot. On the other hand it could be something else.
