Folks that say my pistol " runs". Have never seen any weapon with legs. Lack of ability with the English language for using Functions, operates and other better words.
Young guys at the range shooting ARs and other plastic guns at 7 yards with shotgun size groups????
Guys at shows that ask 100 questions about ammo that has information On The Box of ammo. Happened at Raleigh show when helping best friend, give me a break…..

FWIW its easy to see who was never in the military in the 70s or on any type of military shooting team. Also never been involved in operating an indoor shooting range. Certain weapons terms are just what they are. BTW weapon is the term the military uses for such and IMHO used by those that have been there and done it. Also easy to see who has never been in a combat situation. These are my comments on this thread.

It took me forever to stop referring to guns as "weapons" when I was instructor for our local 4H shooting club. 4H doesn't want you to refer to them as weapons, but "firearms" or "rifles" instead. That actually makes sense to me, as we were teaching kids to target shoot, not prepare them for combat.

This #$^%&* thumbs high hold on a gun not designed for it....
So many say the gun is bad when they ride the slide with high thumbs, and drop the mag by hitting the button with the base of the thumb,
or slide locks or not locks because the thumb is high .
My EAA Gold Team is set up for this hold from the factory thumb shield on the safety and on the "Gass Pedel"

I have an uncle that I shoot with now and then. He volunteered for the Marines in 1967, fought in Vietnam, stayed in and retired after 20 years. Sometimes he calls it a "weapon," sometimes he calls it a "firearm," sometimes he calls it a "gun."

By the way, I suggest you not try to tell him to his face that he hasn't "been there and done it."

A few years ago, my daughter (former Navy sonar tech) and her boyfriend went with me to shoot a bowling pin match. When it was time to get the guns out, I put a 1911 .45 on the table, my daughter put a 1911 .45 on the table, and the boyfriend put a Glock 19 9mm on the table. My daughter took a long look at the Glock then turned to the boyfriend and said….

I'll take this a little further. Instructors and Red Shirts trying to teach somebody with limited hand strength the high thumbs or thumbs forward grip. I know the IPSC and IDPA fiends will go ballistic, but for some a thumbs down crush grip is the only way for people with small hands and weak wrists to have any chance of controlling a pistol. Also, with the thumbs forwards grip there is often nowhere to put them on a smaller gun, or something with a minimal dustcover. Now what?

This thread has gone from "trends" to words and phrases that are faddish, worn out, make little sense, and show a distinct deterioration in the simple communication processes of speaking and writing. They often reflect poorly on the user but many users aren't aware or don't care. There's nothing wrong with improvement but it likely won't happen.

They were referenced in post 266.

With the tourists from non-gun countries, we have plenty of red shirt types with good reason. Usually they determine whether you have a clue before you enter the range. Foreign passport or local ID is the first filter. I've never had a problem with them. They usually only speak to me if I am shooting with something they don't recognize.

People that get hung up on the Clip versus Magazine thing . I know the difference and I use the correct term but I will not correct anyone else unless I'm actually teaching someone .

There's a place called "The Clip Joint". They sell more vintage magazines than anyone. Clip to me is just slang for magazine. No different than a 100 other phrases.

I cringe when people call their firearms She. She has a nice finish on her. Also, guys explaining a part calling it This Guy. She is a song title. Also, very rarely, people writing a post and putting LOL after every other sentence.

I'm no expert, but I don't get why people modify their stock Glock...Why sacrifice reliability to get "a better" trigger when it's up to the shooter to get the job done. I enjoy air pistol so I know what a light and good trigger means and I can tell you, my G17.5 was great out of the box and plenty accurate at 25m. I'd better put my money in a good steel frame pistol than modify this reliable firearm.
