Picked up a new 625 yesterday and put about 30-40 rounds through it. Shoots great and very accurate. The trigger has me concerned though as none of my other Smith revolvers exhibit this particular issue. After firing, if I release the trigger slowly to reset, the next trigger pull does nothing. Hammer moves very slightly and the cylinder does not turn. A quick release then fixes the glitch. If I release the trigger quickly after firing there is no problem. As stated earlier none of my other revolvers do this. Anyone know what the issue may be? Is this a simple spring problem or should it go back to the factory?

There are other possibilities, but 98% or better you simply need to replace the rebound slide spring. Most likely someone has cut the one in your gun to give a lighter trigger pull. Bubba is alive and well in S&W land. :D

Thanks for the quick response and I was thinking it was a weak rebound spring, but this is a new gun, no previous owner and so no bubba involved! I have never taken off a side plate, but could certainly do that if this is something I can fix. Perhaps a clean and lube in the clockwork would fix things up?

New gun that is not right would go back to S&W if it was mine. I will not be called Bubba!

The rebound slide is sticking and not returning to its normal position.
It could be a weak rebound spring or the slide is binding somehow.
A trip to a gunsmith is in order unless you are well versed in disassembly and correcting the problem.

Update. Thought the innards may be dry, so at the range applied a small bit of lube up under the main spring. That was a mistake! Now I had almost no double action! Shot fine in single and the next shot was also fine in DA. Fired of about 30 rounds in SA just because it is fun and thought things might work their way in. Nope. At home took off the grips, removed the cylinder and gently took off the side plate. Everything looked fine to me as I have never seen the inside of a revolver before. Sprayed some Gunk-out to give things a rinse, and let it sit and dry. Then a tiny bit of Rem Oil. Put the cylinder back on to cycle and to see how everything moves. All was good in DA with a quick release of the trigger. Slower release ok too, Good, an improvement. Very slow release and the problem showed re-appeared. Seems the sear would not reposition correctly by popping back out over the trigger. Perhaps it is a weak sear spring? Checked my 617, 686 and 929, and none have the issue. Also, when resetting the trigger with those three guns there are TWO distinct clicks. With the 625 there are three, with the 2nd and 3rd clicks being very close together. I do believe this gun will be heading back to the factory for a fix. I will take it to the range a couple more time before that. It is a great shooter. Please jump in if you have any helpful hints.

Smoke, you got me wondering about my 625-8. So I have it sitting here with me as I type. I only hear 2 distinct clicks when I slowly release the trigger. I don't know enough about the internals to speak competently on that subject. The 2 clicks I have are at the end of the trigger release if that helps at all.

I've had similar issues with an improperly installed cylinder latch spring. The cylinder latch was interfering with the trigger, which is what positions the latch.
