Sold for $3225 and then there's still sales tax and shipping!

It's rather fuzzy with regards to the few photographs, the S & W logo appears a bit "soft", and the tone of the bluing does not appear factory. It could be the photographs, but from the photographs presented, I'd think long and hard about bidding anywhere near what it hammered at. With the photographs that were provided.

Comments? I might not necessarily be correct.

That's a righteous gun. I was short of funds, or I would have been a player. $3500 gun.

Yes the price was right IF not refinished. But I couldn't 100% determine that from the photographs.

I had some doubts but I guess others did not.

Is it the low number AND the 5-inch barrel that makes the value, or is it just the 5-inch barrel (assuming equal condition)?

IF original, it's worth at least $3225 and it's condition and the 5" barrel. It's really not a low serial number unless 1 or 2 digits.

I should say WITH the photographs provided, I was going to take a gamble on the low 2 range. I also forgot about this listing until after it closed which made the decision to bid in over the 3 range or not easy.

I should say in my first post I pointed out what looked wrong in the photographs provided, but a whole lot looked right, including protruding pins, a case coloured cam, no dishing around the cam or screws, nice stocks commensurate with the condition of the rest of the revolver, and a nice fitting sideplate. But, because there was a shadow of doubt…

I think if the seller had provided better quality photographs, and more of them, with Gunbroker being what it is, this one could have cracked 4k in today's market.

Pics were lousy, but I thought it was good enough to take a gamble.
I'm hoping it was a sock drawer gun.

So you won it? Can you post photographs once received?

Because I was not 100% certain, I wasn't willing to take much of a gamble.

As with any gamble, it sometimes pays off big!

Yep, I won it. I almost stopped bidding a couple of times, but I kept telling myself "how often do you see a 5" triple lock in this condition?"
We will see if it was a prudent purchase or not.
I will post pics when I get it.

I told myself the same thing but was concerned with the possibility, even if remote, that it looked so good because of a reblue.

I thank you in advance for your willingness to post photographs, once received.

I see you are in Oregon. I believe there is no sales tax in Oregon, in which case you had a 6% advantage over me.

I know you really have to know what you're looking at. I once won a 5" 27-2 for $475.00 on two lousy dining room chair pics and a description of Smith and Wesson .357. But bidding over 3000.00 bucks on four "half decent" pictures of a TL.........WOW.

That's cool!! Congratulations. I watched it for days wondering how high it would go. I wish he had posted better pictures just because I wanted to see it better.
Look forward to seeing yours.

Lousy pics and description.
I think you did well.
An original gun (I think) with what I consider a fairly low number, scarcer 5", all matching numbers (they say), "The cylinder and barrel are bright and shiney." (they say), NICE early grips, worn grip straps.
I could see the barrel number before they added that to the description.
The pics show oil smudges and fingerprints all over the gun. Those smudges are what make the logo look faint. The smears and grime also make the color look a little off. I often wonder if you guys are using a big monitor or just your phones. Makes a big difference. ;) Learn how to interpret what different lighting and smudged guns look like.
I don't know if lots of good pics would have made it crack 4000, but I do believe it would have gone higher.

Tip- always look for sharp edges on cyl flutes and locking notches with no dipping or dishing. Even Factory refins usually show slight alteration of those sharp, straight lines with some "rounding over" or softening.
It amazes me how little effort some sellers put out. If you can't take more than four pics, could you at least wipe the gun down before taking them? :D

The bulk of my collection comes from sketchy gunbroker auctions with dodgy descriptions and terrible pictures. After a while you learn what to look at. Comparing the reality to the pictures after you have it in hand.

I wouldn't be worried about this one. As far as a gamble goes its as close to a sure bet as they come.

Pivot pin is perfect, third stud isn't blue, high edges have some wear, little bit of corrosion here and there (enough to show its been around), pronounced turn line, sharp lettering, no dishing on the sideplate.

The look of the Logo is pretty typical in these bad photos. That logo can look all dished with just a bit of oil on there and a bad photo, but when you get it you will see its not.

It's going to look so dang good in person.

The one question in my mind was the mention of wear in the description combined with (virtually) no image of the grip frame. The rear may have been under-lit, heavily worn and brown/rusty, or anywhere in between.
