Turn the heat on yet?

I try to see "how late" I can go each year without turning on the heat. The date I have to beat for this year is November 11. In fact, just yesterday, I turned off the A/C and opened up a window. My house is well insulated and we can have many days down below freezing before you really "need" the heat.

I lived in the inter-mountain west for eight years and learned to love the colder weather. I typically dress in layers in the winter and do not like much heat in the house. During the winter I don't want any heat going at night. During the day I can stand 58 degrees inside the house.

I've had the heat on a few times, and it is already on tonight. It's 7:30 pm and already down to 43 degrees. We've already had quite a few fires at my girlfriends place already. One of my favorite parts of the cold weather is the warmth from a fire. :)

Had AC still running 2 days ago. Hasn't gotten below 48 at night yet, and getting up to upper 60's to 70's still in the daytime. I always tell the wife we can't turn the heat on until Nov. but we never make it that long. Been a great fall so far. Trees turning nicely and not a frost yet.

We're starting to run the wood cookstove in the mornings to make breakfast and coffee. Somehow it's more of a pleasure then a bother....:)

Won't be long before we crank up the AllNighter in the basement. It heats the whole house.

No heat yet but I will close the windows in a couple of hours as it will drop down to the mid 40's tonight. Love this time of year!

Maybe we'll turn on the heat some time this year.
Little electric oil filled heaters that run on 110v.
Maybe January or Febuary I'll put on the central heat
just to take the chill away,10 or 15min. should do it.
Chrstmas dinner, take a frozen ham and throw it in the pool to thaw.
Happy Holidays ahead.
I know Fl. don't know how to do Christmas.

We're getting close to putting on some heat here in the Pacific Northwest. The last few mornings the house feels a little on the cool side but we have resisted lighting the pilot light in the natural gas free standing stove. Next week probably--

No heat here. And I'm hoping to get by another month without it. I finally turned off the AC a couple days ago and opened the windows. I love having the windows open! It's been in the low 50s at night, so it's a bit chilly in the mornings, but it sure makes for good sleeping weather! Might actually have to put the comforter on my bed pretty soon!

Weather finally broke for us and we opened up the house for the first time this morning. Man it was nice! SWMBO said we(code word for I have to) needed to get the chiminea ready to go out by the pool. Told her I thought we had some time yet, like maybe two or three months. ;)

Its been on for a couple days now. Hit 28 degrees last night.

We've had the heat on for a couple of weeks now. Last couple of mornings hasn't been to bad but before that the temp had been below freezing every night. Coldest so far has been 23. Snow down to about 9500 ft.

Rayb,
That may be the finest way I've ever heard it put!
Leave it to someone from Texas or Oklahoma!

We've had the furnace on at least for a few hours in every month this year. Turned it on again the other day and I doubt we'll actually turn it off again until next May. The seven day forcast is for highs in the 40s and lows in the 30s. I only ran the AC about three days this summer (if you could call it summer), and two of those three were in September!

Been burning wood for a couple of weeks now

We've been running aspen through the stove the past couple of weeks. Aspen is considered a trash wood up here - an arboral weed so to speak.

Really too much ash to use during the serious heating season, but it burns quick and hot. Great for heating the house up quickly in the morning. Fire goes out quickly so the place doesn't get overheated.

temps have been in the 20s at night.

During the real winter we burn spruce or birch and let the stove run continuously.

The heat is on and it better stay on. But don't ask me how long it's been on because I don't know. It's 2' C (35' F) and falling as I type this, but I am 375 miles north of the US-CANADA border of Montana/North Dakota/Saskatchewan.
