Tyler T Grip Adaptors

I'm more a fan of bronze Tgrips on blued Smith & Wessons with magnas due to the fact that the bronze more closely matches the Smith & Wesson Medallion in the grips, but that shiny silver looks amazing on that Colt.

For some reason when I ordered it I didn't like the way the glossy black looked. Cuz it didn't really look like bluing to me in the pictures I've seen. Just a glossy black. And the bronze wouldn't have matched anything.

Get the Tyler's. If you're like me you know the difference between feeling plastic and aluminum. Tyler T's feel better on your hands and if you ever decide to resell there is more of a demand for them. You'd easily get your money back.

Right now they've been delivering faster than they did years ago. They do run a small shop and they don't have online ordering.

For those who don't know the family that runs the company almost closed their doors due to a tornado that hit them about 10 yrs ago. It nearly wiped them out. And then with the political climate going on at that time, people were flooding them with more orders than they were use to receiving.

I just got off the phone with the lady at Tyler's, since it's been 8 weeks since I ordered and more than 4 weeks since they cashed the check. It turned out the order ended up getting "stuck behind" something or another. So it's now at the front of the line for when they make the black #3 the week after next.

My suggestion is that if you've been waiting for longer than the lead time that's noted on their website (currently 3-4 weeks), give them a call.

I wasn't even aware of the BK grips until this thread. I have wanted to try a grip adapter forever, but was hesitant to order the ubiquitous Tyler-T's because of the long lead times I read about. Just ordered some BK's to try out. Thanks everyone!

Have a black BK on my Cobra. Looks just as nice as the Tyler and has two clips for more security. And you know you'll get it in the same year. And the BK may be plastic, but it's a solid feeling hard polymer, not "plasticy" like the old pachmayr adapters.

I have Tyler's, BK's and a Pachmayr. The BK is on my Colt Detective Special and I've been very happy with it. But I really like the Pachmayr.

My dad's 1950 S&W M&P (pre-10) has one; unfortunately, it does not seem to fit any of my more modern K frames from the 80s and 90s

I have had, or have, Pacmyre(sp?), Mershon(sp?), Tyler and BK grip adapters. Now any gun that wears a grip adapter, wears a BK. They fit better, look better and a very secure. Plastic doesn't bother me as both the Pac and Mershon are plastic. I also usually receive them about 3-5 days post order. I have relegated all other grip adapters to the "spare parts" drawer.

When you compare adapters, you need to keep in mind that you are dealing with different eras of materials.

Not all things were better quality in the "old days". The last Mershon adapters were produced in the 1950s, and Pachmayr did not make them much beyond the 1970s. Both are simply hard plastic, perfectly servicable but they will crack or splinter when abused. BK adapters are currently made from considerably more contemporary material. And of course the metal of the Tylers is an entirely different story all along.

By the way, there are alternatives to just putting the old-time adapters on a gun and then complaining that they are loose and don't fit.

Quite a few of the old 1940s/50s police revolvers I've bought over the years that came with Mershons or Pachmayrs showed evidence of fitting work by the owner.

See the attached photo for a comparison. The 1947 M&P on the left wears a Mershon which shows whittling or filing marks all around the contact edge with the gun, and fits like it's molded to the gun. No looseness or shifting. The Colt wears a Pachmayr that was obviously just slapped on; it stood off at the toe and actually broke the tip at some point.

I started this thread to inquire about Tyler grip adapters. In the course of discussion there were a number of references to BK products. At first I was turned off to the plastic factor , but the additional "grab tabs" seemed like a positive so I gave it a whirl. Glad I did.

If I find any Tylers at the nearby weekend gun show I may try them. In the meantime I'm pretty well set.

(I usually take pictures outdoors - but Wisconsin got slammed with a late snow last nite.)

But what about Pachmayr?

They sure are a neat way to make a gun work, while still maintaining "old school" style . . . class, even. I mean, these things work great, but they don't really bring the same cachet to the firing line.

After my last interaction with Tyler T, I will never directly deal with them again. Their quality control is virtually nonexistant. I had to return two out-of-spec grip adapters for my Mod. 66 snubby. They simply could not produce a product that fit without obvious gross gaps. After I returned the second defective adapter with an explanatory note, I never heard from them again. They didn't return calls or e-mails, nor did they send me a satisfactory replacement. In other words, they totally screwed me, and cheated me out of my money. The only reason I have any of their adapters is because I bought older products that were advertised by private owners. In my experience, the current product produced by Tyler T is inferior, and their GAS business attitude is intolerable. When you treat customers like dirt, expect the same in return, Tyler T.

Back in the day when most of the guns that we put T-grips on were originally sold the standard for mail order was "Allow 4-6 weeks for shipping and handling".

Even though we now live in the age of overnight delivery and instant gratification, Tyler wants you to experience the nostalgia of the era of the classic S&W's.

Not to hijack the thread too badly, where did the ammo box in this picture come from? I assume it is fairly current since it has the plastic ammo box in the rear compartment. Is it a production item from someone or is it custom? TIA!

Well, the time has come and gone when I was supposed to receive my T-grip. I tried calling them this afternoon and there's no answer, and the voicemail box is full. Hmmm......

I sent them an email telling them to ship my grip now, or send my money back to me. This is beyond crazy.

Where do I get a BK from?

Tyler finally cleared their VM box (it was full last week), so I was able to leave a VM saying that they were failing to deliver per their promise to me, so I wanted a refund as I "went in a different direction". I got a text a few hours later that they'll send me a postal money order refund today. I'll believe it when I see it.

Sorry to all the believers, but Tyler's is officially a shady company after all that I'm hearing and experiencing.

Even when they're not period correct (1970s T-Grip on a 1917 gun) they look great.

Or a new 442PC with an older one (most of the engraving is gone from previous use).

But sometimes period correct really is the right way to go.

I agree with your comment on the period-correct look. Here's the BK adapter on my 1954 M&P snub. I like the look, but thought the adapter was a little too smooth so I roughed up the front surface with my Dremel. It feels good now.

OK, fair enough. I just got my held mail from a week traveling and the refund was there. It showed up about a week later from the original message.

So perhaps "shady" is too strong. What is not too strong is "poorly managed" and "untrustworthy" to fulfill orders. Remember, I spoke with them after 2-1/2 months and they had misplaced the order, saying they would get it right out the next week. I only contacted them after three weeks went by with no product. So call it what you want.

This isn't something I like to hear as I ordered some for an N-drake six weeks ago. They cashed the check a month ago and it sounds like I'll be waiting awhile. Really hope they fit when (or if) they do arrive.

I am looking for a couple of Tyler Grip adaptors , one each for a K and a J frame. Over the last few years I have heard indications that Tyler Co. is not reliable in processing orders ... What is the current status of that situation?

I have searched the online brokerages ; only found some on Ebay , which I usuaslly do not use.

Have you found what you are looking for? I ask because I have decided service grips and Tylers are not for me. I was going to sell them on a NJ forum, but I would sell to you if you wanted. I have 2 Tylers, bought new a few years ago. #1 is glossy black, square butt, K frame. #2 is brushed silver, round butt, J frame... #2 matches my Model 60 perfectly. Get back to me if either would work for you and we can discuss price.

Well, I'm not ready to give up hope, and I don't feel like hunting down private market sellers of specific Tgrips I want, so I think I'm going to order the remaining 4 Tgrips I need here in the next few weeks. I'll keep everyone posted on wait times and stuff, but I'm planning on forgetting about the order after I send away the money order, at least for 5 months.
