Tyler T Grips - What Do You Know?

I currently have one that came on a 66-1. I still think they are a half-assed solution to poor fitting grips - cool for old school looking rig. It seems they're from an era when there were fewer choices in grips. Just my opinion...

There were quite a few choices of grips for revolvers "back in the day ", maybe more than today as the wheelguns ruled for so long.

Herrett's, Mustang Grips, Rogers, Jay Scott, Fuzzy Farrant, Craig Spegel, John Hurst, and others, not to mention makers offering their own options (Magna, Target, Combat ). And that's just in woods.

You could get a WIDE variety of grip choices during the period of this forum.

And still Tyler's were pretty popular. :)

The only K frame grips I like better than Magnas and a T grip are the old Davis competition grip for square, and the Pachmayr Compac Pro for round. And the Davis grips definitely weren't any good for concealed carry.

Hi guys, about 10 years ago, during the 1st "Is Tyler shutdown?"panic, I jumped headfirst into the Tyler speculation buy and sell frenzy on the bay. T1's,T3's,T3R's and T4's were suddenly going for really crazy money,$150.00 to $350.00 each. At the time there was no terrific BK Grips alternative. Kudos to wrangler5 on this forum for stepping up. Looks like the auction prices are getting pretty crazy again but I'm sitting this one out.

@ the OP, this is just my opinion but hope it helps: It is being run by the kids who inherited the company and is not a full-time situation. I usually buy a half dozen or so at a time and just wait. No big deal.If you want immediate response, buy from a reseller. Just my experience, others may/will have different views. They are a solid company, but I can imagine being busy in life and such that it is a 'when we can get to it' situation which is fine for me, personally.

Which is all good, this still being America (allegedly) but then just say that. So any potential customers would know. Cashing the check and disappearing isn't a good look. No matter if you emerge later.

That's really my only gripe.

Fewer choices and they were way more expensive compared to Tylers. Still are.

As mentioned above, there were quite a few custom makers. Roper, Sanderson, Herrett's, and several others at least. Plus all the local talent. Some folks like a lot of grip on the revolver. Others, like me, prefer magnas but want that area behind the triggerguard filled in, so the grip adapter is perfect.

I inherited my dad's K22 in 1984 - he had a Tyler grip on it...I never like it and changed the grips to S&W Goncalo Alves target grips. I recently bought a set of the original grips for that pistol and would lie to get another Tyler grip - dad's was w/o the finger grooves...after years of 'benign neglect I want to get that gun back into use...

Here's a thread I started comparing the various Tyler style adapters currently available: "T" grip adapter comparison thread

A smooth style may have been a Pachmayr or S&W however....

I've had several Tyler T-Grips on order for about three months.

I have a black BK on a Model 10 and a Robertson's on a Model 65. Both work fine.

I don't have a photo of the M10 with the BK, but here's a photo of the M65 with the Robertson's:

I ordered a T Grip for a Ruger Speed Six on 2/12/21, my check posted to my checking account in early March 2021. Still haven't received it. Sent Tyler a text 5 weeks ago, never got a reply back

While instant gratification is swell, Tylers apparently operates by accumulating orders and when sufficient adapters are ordered they make a production run. These little pieces are cast and finished by hand(?) so it takes time. I am under the impression this is not their primary source of income. Patience pays off. Or, purchase on the auction sights. Lots of ways to get them.

Things were different when Melvin Tyler was alive & the fellow who ran the shop afterwards (& bought the business from Melvin's descendants) was alive. Problems started shortly after that. BK Grips are a fine replacement.

Ah I see it's the yearly Tyler-T thread and the company is still at it... taking orders and giving the customers the silent treatment. The last time I ordered from them was around 2015 and they took months to deliver. If the website is still up I assume they're still in business. You just gotta ask yourself if you're willing to wait it out or pay more for a vintage one sold online.

I thought long and hard before ordering from Tyler this time. I have been buying T Grips since the late 1970s, when they were $12.95 apiece, I think. I have a T Grip for a Colt Det Special which is a close but not perfect fit for a Ruger Speed Six, that's what I've been using. If BK would make an adapter for a Speed Six, I'd be all over it (I know they do make one for a Det Special)

I have a Tyler on my Cobra and a BK on my DS. If you need a simple black one there is no need to wait until the the chunk of coal under your shed becomes a diamond.

Jeez, that's 16 months. I ordered about six months ago. Nothing yet.

I'm not sure which BK adapter this one started as, I used a touch of epoxy over the model designation -

Pretty sure it was a D frame originally.

Since the color goes though & through and there's no grain to the epoxy, filing or dremel goes pretty easy.
