Unmarked CS-1 / Product Code 104228

Hello all,

I have a unmarked, 3" product code 104228, serial prefix AZB that lacks the CS-1 marking. Everything on the gun follows suit with the exception of the white outline rear sight. I assume any non-Customs Service sales would lack the CS-1 markings, correct? Without the CS-1 marking, is it only slightly more desireable than a run of the mill 686-1, or does the matching CS1 product code make it any more interesting?

Cool gun. A couple of possible explanations for this one - a CS-1 contract gun that missed having the stamp applied, or a later gun put together from leftover parts and intentionally not stamped.

I can recall seeing a few examples posted here previously. I suspect it is worth only slightly less or the same as a CS-1, since there were likely few of these made (and it's a pre-lock 3" 686).

I don't thinks it's a CS-1.

It has the correct product code and has the grip window. If it was part of the original order, even though it's not marked CS-1, it's still built within the parameters of the build sheet which had several parts made to CS specs. To me, that adds value. If you can, measure the width of the front sight. The CS-1 was 1/10".

Yes, the thin pinned black front sight blade and the bead blast/matte finish are CS-1 specific features, even though it is not marked as such.

I thought the CS-1s were all no dash. Maybe leftover parts. OP, very nice 3", I'm jealous.

All looks correct with your gun, front sight, bead blast finish, and the Pachmayr grips with the cut out for the serial #.

Thanks for the replies. The front sight is 1/10". I remember when the CS-1s were in Shotgun News back in the mid-90s. I had just pulled the trigger on a USPS Inspector Ruger Speed Six or I would have grabbed one of these when they were cheap. Seems the distributor offered three grades, with the top being LNIB with box and papers. This one showed up in the used case at Cabela's about six years ago..believe it was $399. It had been carried, grips are worn and the front sight digned, but still a great shooter.

Me too although with SW you never know. The front sight blade will tell the tale.

It appears to be one of the contract over run guns from the CS-1 contract. It was not ever issued to U.S. Customs, as all the issued guns were stamped CS-1. If they were sent to the field and the particular gun needed the modifications, it was stamped 2M.
