So I have a 2006 Fusion with 271K miles on it. Good car, but always something wrong with it and it's not going to last for ever. Also have a 2002 GMC Sonoma with 187K miles on it in good running condition but it too has it's issues. We bought both of these used and I've put about 135K on the Fusion and 100K on the truck. Both aren't worth much when it comes to trade in or even private sale for that matter.

So I am sitting here trying to figure out the best way to get us into newer lower mileage vehicles. Ford has a lot of good incentives on new vehicles right now, but they are still pricey. I could go used again, but if I have to finance anything it's not going to be at 0%.

The vehicles we have now suit our needs. I am considering just replacing the Fusion with a 2-3 year old low mileage Fusion and driving the truck out till it's truly dead and then getting a similar type truck/SUV. Any other ideas comments, suggestions?

I am not "rich" by any means. I try to make wise decisions with my money but my wife says it's OK to have a little "toy" in your vehicle also.

My last three pick-ups were driven until 21 years old. Have car fro primary transportation.

For the last ten years I figure that if it costs less than $500 a year to make them go and stop
it is a bargain compared to monthly payment on the next one.

I will NOT buy NEW. Let somebody else take the rapid depreciation for the first few years.

Considering the miles on both vehicles you have certainly gotten your monies worth. You obviously drive a lot!. Being in Michigan I would be surprised if you don't know someone who works for Ford (or another car company) where they can hook you up with a discount.

Check with your local rental car companies. Most have a sales lot and sell off the rental cars within two years of age. Usually will give you a warranty and will have less than 30000 miles on them for 50% of what they sell for new. Just be sure to check with Kelly Blue Book or NADA for values to be sure your getting a fair deal.

Hope this helps.

Hondas are my choice. Cheap to keep and good ones are easy to sell used. CRV or Accord with the 2.4L inline 4 is a good way to go. Bulletproof engine, no timing belt change to worry about and Honda doesn't build in planned obselesence.

Subaru's aren't what they used to be. Had them for 30 years but now Toyota fan. Have a sienna van and a Camry. Both great vehicles. 2016 Camry V-6 is the way to go. Only about 10% are made with v-6. 265 HP, 0-60 in under 6 seconds, smooth 6 speed auto and averaging 28.5 mpg. Zoom plus gas mileage only slightly less than 4 cylinder.
