Found out from my doctor about an hour ago that my testosterone was at 90. Normal for a guy of my age is around 550.

No dang wonder I've been driving badly and leaving the seat down lately! ;-)

Going in tomorrow to see about starting replacement(s).

Before you know it, you won't want to watch Oprah.

Sorry, couldn't resist. :D

Charlie had that and did the testosterone replacement regimine for a month or so. It didn't really help. What did help is that he found out the root cause of the low testosterone and feeling "out of gas" was a very low thyroid. So now he takes synthroid and that does help.

Have your doctor run a thyroid test.

Get below 75 and you might have to turn in your man card...

Good luck with the treatment!

When I was about 48 I was lifting weights and started taking some over the counter prohormones to raise my testosterone and give me more strength. It helped quite a bit with energy and strength but it also increased my sex drive to levels I had when I was a teenager. That would have been great, except I could'nt get my wife to take any, so it left me even more frustrated!

I tried some prohormones before a big powerlifting meet. For those 2 months I was friggin bullet-proof, at least I though so. I tried to hump practically anything with the appropriate genitalia and picked more fights than I can count. Great times, not doing it again.

SC, getting that T count back to normal should make you feel like a new man. Good luck.

I had a similar problem. My urologist could have given me a series of shots, but instead suggested a rub-on testosterone cream called AndroGel. Put it on after your shower on shoulders and chest. Helped quickly with next blood test, the count went way up to mid-normal. And if you're old enough, your insurance should take care of it.
But it sounds like I could use some of those prohormones.

2 weeks ago the nurse drew 4 or 5 viles of blood. Was supposed to be tested for everything. PSA, Hep-C, HIV,Colesterol,Testosterone........

But come to find out this morning at the doctor's office he forgot to order all the tests except the testosterone! Guess who got to give 4 more viles of blood this morning. He suggested I go with the shots for a while. 1/2 CC every 2 weeks. I guess he'll do blood tests every two weeks or so. That serum is some kind of thick. Might have to swap over to the "rub on" stuff. I'm getting pretty tired of doctor's offices now. Seems like I'm in an office at least 3 times a month.

Thanks all for suggestions and well wishes. Will keep you posted on my "sexual prowess"..........since ya'll brouoght it up!

I did the Androgel for a while. It's way better than the patches. While it elevated my levels, it really did nothing for me, and eventually I gave it up. Had the thyroid check, and everything seems OK, but I'm still out of gas all the time, and metabolism is so slow, I gain weight with a consistent 1500 calorie diet. I think that I'm destined to always be fat and tired. (Sorry for the rant.)

SENIOR CITIZEN, I have been an insulin dependent diabetic for over 20 years and am now 63. I went through several years of depression, severe enough that I did not want to get out of bed in the mornings and some that I did not even try. No interest in life. Told my primary care guy and he gave me Prozac and Welbutrin which only added to the problem. Threw them away after a while and just told him I felt great. Well, on one visit he said that I should see a urologist so that I could get on a regimen to look after kidneys, etc. Went to the doc and they did blood work and returned in 2 weeks for consultation and doc said that my testosterone level was non existant and I remarked that was why I had no lead in the pencil and he looked at me and said "what's more you don't care". ell he had my attention then and he said that Testosterone was necessary for the overall sense of well being and that I would get shots every two weeks and that in 30 days the world would look a lot better. Well about the end of the 5th. week, the fog of depression lifeted and now I go and get my shots every two weeks and takes about 15 minutes. It makes a lot of difference when this old body works like God intended it to and thank goodness that there are people in the health care business who want to heal people. Been feeling good ever since. For all you guys out there, get your hormone levels checked if you are dealing with depression or loss of interest in your jobs, hobbies, etc.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Sounds like me exactly except the part about not getting out of bet. I don't care, I'm not motivated and things that used to "motivate" me don't any longer! Damn shame that this illness effects all around you too. Momma has been really good with her understanding that it's my problem and not a problem with "us". I just took one shot so far, but am looking forward to the next one. Hopefuly things are gonna pick up soon!

Got to tell you, about 1 1/2 yrs ago started to have aches and pains where I could barely get out of bed and it hurt all over like crazy, especially my feet, legs and hips. I have been studying bio identical hormone replacement for my wife when all of a sudden I need it. What a difference! I use armour thyroid, the only biologically identical thyroid out there, all others are man made and have side effects. Use a testosterone cream every morning, that as far as I can tell is also bio identical. Am working on eating like The Protein Power Plan. Things are heading in the right direction. You will need to research a dr in your area who will treat with bio identical. Most do not and will not. Bio identical, no side effects.....

Senior Citizen, I prescribe at least 2 weeks of staying out of Walmarts. That should increase your testosterone level by about 200%.

SC,

There are also small implants available that get inserted just under your skin. They last about 5 months and cut down on the office visits.

Talk to your doc about them.

.

XXXXXXXX Thanks guys. I'll check into it. The aches in the feet, knees and hips I have all day everyday. Something's got to give one way or the other though.

appreciate al the info.
