Victory data base

Thought I would add mine here.

All the numbers match and like others I've seen in this thread no US or other stamp. It does have the flaming bomb on the butt. Still trying to get an approx date.

Still trying to get an approx date.

Hello 00Buck2:

Thanks for providing the info on your Victory. From the Victory Model Database, administered by my pal LWCmdr45 and me, I can estimate for you that your Victory likely shipped from the factory in the November, 1942 to January, 1943 time frame. It was most likely a revolver shipped under DSC authorization to a civilian end user. Nice gun.

Victory before V

I recently acquired a British Service Model, United States Property marked, WB etc. with postwar Birmingham proofs.
Absolutely unremarkable save the serial number: 948018. This the earliest one of the Victory type I have seen. An estimated shipping date would be appreciated.

If this is a pre-V what do call those M&Ps from say 680,000 onward made to commercial specs but with a butt swivel?

Charlie I have two Victorys.
V 235067 is Navy marked
V 25852 is a 5 inch 38 S&W
I do not have any additional info and have no idea where they reside in the safe but hope this helps.
Thanks,
Mark

I am trying to determine the date of a Victory 38 special. The following is located on the butt: 8 V 239638. This pistol belonged to my wife's father. He was with the helo crew in test for operation in cold weather during WWII. Any assistance would be appreciated.

All I can say is that most everything I have read indicates that if it has a SN with a V or SV prefix, it is a Victory. All earlier military M&P production from the first British contract onward is pre-Victory, recognizing that there may be various differences seen among revolvers produced on either side of SN V1. Whether there is an "Officially-Accepted" definition of gradients of pre-Victory military M&P production, I do not know.

Your SN is V181331. There is one numbered about 3000 higher that lettered as shipping 12/17/42, so a reasonable bet would be that yours shipped sometime in December 1942 prior to (or on) 12/17. But only a factory letter would establish an exact date.

Yes, post the info here. Ed

I am looking at a S&W 38 special ctg I think it is a victory model ,but would like to know about how old it is # at base of grip by lanyard is V136745. has walnut grips and entire # is on right side of lanyard ring.

Late 1942, probably shipped in October or November. Any more precision would take a factory letter. Yours sounds correct. A picture would be good, as people here love pictures. And lots more details.

Here is one for the data base: V 204976, 4" barrel, .38 S&W Special Ctg., parkerized or "midnight blue?", extractor rod is bright blue. I saw no military markings except for an Ordnance Bomb stamped on the butt in front of the swivel. Stocks number to the gun. It is in very nice condition. No photos available as it is a buddie's gun.

I'm thinking ship date in early 1943?

Thanks.
Bill

Victory Model ID

Can anyone help date/know where shipped, etc. this WWII Victory Model....4 in barrel 38 special, Flaming Ordnance Bomb on butt, serial V123333, an "S" on the cylinder and an "S" on the crane. There is an unknown marking on the crane recess. Here are photos. There is no property marking. Thanks very much!

Here is a closer pic of the unknown marking in the crane recess, and pics of whole gun.

That SN would indicate shipping in (probably) September or October 1942. I don't know what the marking is, likely an inspector's stamp. The S could indicate a later upgrade to the improved internal safety system incorporated into all V-model production in late 1944-early 1945. Removing the sideplate would confirm that. That one appears to be in very nice condition. Are there numbers stamped inside the grip panels?
