Warning stickers - Yes or No?

these stickers rate right along with the "concealed carry badges" IMHO.

Nope, for the same reasons listed above. However, that being said, I do have a sign out in the barn that reads:

Due to the rising cost of ammunition, we can no longer offer a warning shot. Thank you for understanding.​

In my state I think I wiould have to minimally put it up in English, Spainish, and Braille. Possibly more languages depending on the neigborhood.

Its a bad idea. It would be too long.
 
It screams 'premeditation.' In an unfriendly place like NYC, even an apparent 'righteous' shooting results in an arrest and charges. Grand jury time. Myself, I never talk about or display a weapon except at a range. Why show people where I carry it or mention that I have it. Even in friendlier locales, you'd be amazed how many people dislike guns.
 
I remember a bud telling me that a pickup truck parked in a lot with a sticker saying," This Vehicle Protected By Smith and Wesson" that there was a high probability that there was likely a very nice piece sitting under the seat of that truck.
 
I have always heard that if you put up a "Beware of dog" sign you are admitting that you know your dog is dangerous and are more likely to lose a court case. IMO, putting up a "Protected by..." or similar sign would be doing the same thing and inviting trouble.

That can vary by the precise wording of state law and cases interpreting it, so I would be hesitant to generalize. I much prefer a "no trespassing" sign, and/or as tall a fence as you can get by with under local zoning, with LOCKED gates. Ruthlessly call LE every time anyone attempts to enter, gets to your doorbell, etc.

Make sure there is a solid record of not welcoming anyone who was not invited previously, because then you can show you already know that someone doing so is a criminal and per se non-compliant and likely a threat. Anyone who comes to your home uninvited should feel very unwelcome - if they don't, you need to revisit your choices. Before the fences were in, I made darned sure that anyone who came to the house uninvited was really unhappy and uncomfortable. (You at the door: hands in the air, palms toward me. Back away from the door, now. The police have been called." Often there were words sprinkled in there which would get attention from our mods ... )They have no protectable interest in a warm fuzzy feeling - if they need one I'll take off my shirt and they can rub my back.
 
You guys are assuming that the bad guys can read... :p

I do agree with the advice not to post or otherwise advertise that you have guns. I do have an alarm system, and I do have their company signs at each door, and their stickers on each window.

And as for wiring handles and knobs, etc to electricity...bad idea. Of course the obvious issue is the legal system today would more likely prosecute you for assault, than prosecute the bad guy for trespass, burglary, etc. The other issue, at least for me, is if you forget that it is wired.... :eek:
 
This just seems to be adding to the pile, but in addition to a very strong "NO" I do have a good deal of concern on how you could be stuck with the sticker if things ever did go wrong... That said my wife purchased a small sign which she has by our door bell "attention les chiens" Her thought any possible thief must speak french.....:D
 
I agree w/most not wise to advertise. Nothing posted outside here.

I do have a few little metal signs the wife got me in inside the shop & inside the house. So if they see my signs they've already got in!
 
No signs here and no concealed carry badges either. I could see a benefit in a small ADT sign. I don't wear gun theme clothing not do I put bumper stickers or allow dealer badges on my car. I do not like to telegraph that I have guns. I would be concerned that if i had a "Trespassers will be shot" sign it would be used against me in court in the event I did shoot someone.

I have never seen any evidence that telling folks you have a gun makes you safer.

I do have a lot of motion sensitive lights around my house.
 
While I wouldn't put sign on my house advertising gun ownership. If the SHTF, I might be tempted to put a sign on my neighbor's lawn stating that they are "gun-hating tree huggers".

Old Cop, I have a friend who is a Police Officer in the South. He was telling me that one of his advisors in the Academy taught them to pay careful attention to the Stickers and Emblems people put on their cars, etc. It will give you a good idea as to who you are about to deal with. Are they possibly armed? NRA Plate, Glock Sticker, etc. Are the Law Enforcement? Are they "fill in the blank". Of course maybe they just borrowed the car or perhaps just bought it and have yet to de-sticker it.

Personally I was never much of a sticker person it just seems calling attention to yourself can hurt more than it helps.
 
I second the motion of no signs, T-shirts, hats or stickers. The only sticker I have on my truck says " Yes it's my truck. No I will not help you move". I have two dogs and enough dog poop to make any nut job worry about wallking across the yard. And they would be licked to death if they get into the house.
 
I have anti gun stickers on my car. When I was pulled over the cop was really confused about my stickers and carry permit. Lets just say its my odd sense of humor.

I think it is a bad idea if you have to defend yourself in your house/yard.

The DA will take photo's of it and use it in court to show that you are just "Another Redneck With A Gun".

Same with the "Don't Worry About The Dog" or "I Shoot Every Tenth Salemen"

Not a good idea at all.
 
I believe in the alarm stickers and the beware of dog warnings. When I worked property crimes (Burg & Theft) I always asked the perp how did they would choose their location? Nearly all of them said that if there were signs indicating the premises had an alarm they moved on because there were so many that didn't.

Regarding the dog signs, I look at that as a insurance liability protection. If someone ventures onto my property, then he/she does it at their own risk. My insurance agent thought it was a good idea since my retired K-9 buddy would still enjoy getting ahold of some scumbag.
 
I think a lot of people already beat me to it, but I will respond with a resounding NO.

The way I see it: Be smart. Don't expose yourself to unwanted attention.

An alarm company sign only shows you have something worth stealing if your willing to protect it w/ an alarm system. Jewelry, cash, guns any other valuables does not matter to who ever is willing to break in they just know there is something there you are trying to protect.

Its not hard for anyone to figure out patterns of when someone is home, how many cars are kept there and when people are gone. Just blend in, dont try and stand out just be another regular house.
