I had just returned home from a great day at the range, when my neighbor came over to say hi. He saw the shot up zombie targets and asked if I knew anyone that want to buy a 357 magnum. I immediately said yes without knowing any more info. He went home and came back with a 686-5 in the box with a speed loader, manual and cleaning brush. He sold it to me for $100.00 on the spot and then we drank a lot of beer. The next day we went to the gun shop and transferred it over to me. It is in great condition I am still looking at it in disbelief. From what I can tell looking on line I think I stole it from him. Any thoughts?

Yes, you stole it. Congrats!

4" barrel? Six or seven shot? Regards 18DAI.

If you have to seriously ask, then NO it was not a good deal - you should be offended and demand your money back and replacement beer.:eek::cool:

Wondering two things... why you would wonder if a $100 is a good deal and where do you live that you have to go to a gunshop to have a gun "transferred" to you? You got some kind of registration in your state?

Of course I know it was a great deal! It has a 4" barrel 6 shot, and I live in PA. This isn't my first fire arm but it is the first time I ever got any kind of deal like this.

I would definitely suggest that you go to church on Sunday and make a full confession. Only God can forgive what you have done...

There's no penance for this-none. I would have had to go to Fantasy Island to get half that deal.:( that's like someone finding a NIB Python for $500.

Are you sure you didn't do the beer drinking thing first and then the gun selling thing later?

Congrats! You've got the best all around .357 ever made.

If the deal gets to you go to him and tell him the gun is worth more than the $100 you paid and offer to pay him at least an additional $100. That way he is the one who decides what would be right.

Has anyone see a "did I get a good deal?" thread where it actually wasn't a good deal?

How in the hell did you manage to pull that one off?!?!

You can't even buy a Hi Point for that cheap.

Until I see a picture I refuse to believe it! :)

Everyone realizes that the whole point of this thread is so he can brag to everyone, right?;)

uuuhh....I stand guilty as charged. But the $500 for a NIB Python happened in 1998, not 2010. The Python in question is a 8" Python Target in .38 Special with Nickel finish. It is still NIB today.

I also picked up a 6" stainless Python in .357 from the same guy on the same day for $600 that had been fired. I shoot it occasionally.

Congrats to the OP for getting a fantastic deal!

No, it's not a good deal. A good deal is one that's fair to both parties.

Unless he knows the value and flat out refuses a fair price, I would not do that to a neighbor.

That is unless I saw him leaving my house by the bedroom window.

that would be a hard deal to turn down, but it would almost make me wonder if it was stolen. Unless I personally knew the seller (and with a deal like this, even if I did) I think I'd have insisted on a signed bill of sale with driver's license or CWL info.

I cannot imagine the owner of a 2000 era Model 686 not knowing how much he paid for this thing . . . or how much he had to pay for the gun from someone else.

Either he got screwed . . . or you did.

If that gun is hot the joke may be on you.

Well,...

Last year, fella comes up to me in the shop, with a plastic Wally World bag under his arm. Lays it on the counter, and says his now-ex wife/bitchosaurus gave it to him, and he wanted it out of his life. Colt 1991A1 in a new leather shoulder rig, and three factory mags. Price, $100.00.
I was happy, he was happy, a true 'good deal'!
