A truck containing 133 firearms, mostly handguns, was broken into last month in Billings, MT. That's about all the information available, but be careful if you're buying what appears to be a new gun from an individual in that area. You can find the article at landlinenews.com under Today's News.

You would think the LEO's would provide more information if they are actually interested in getting the public's assistance in recovering the guns. Describing them as, "most of which are handguns" isn't very helpful.

Kind of a lucky guess for a random break in. I'll bet it turns out to be someone who knew about the shipment and contents.

In this case, absolutely. The trucking company is an LTL (less-than-truckload), so these were picked up somewhere, consolidated with other freight, likely crossed two or three docks, hauled on four or five different trailers, before they got to Billings and were combined on one trailer with other shipments going to the sporting goods store. There's no way someone not involved in the shipment could have followed the guns from their manufacturer to that dock.

Many thefts and hijackings are the result of the gang (and they are gangs) following the truck from a warehouse known to ship what they're looking to steal. I don't think that's the case here.

When in doubt about the background of a gun you are thinking of purchasing, just call your local police dept. and have them run a check on the serial number. I recently acquired an XD45 at a gun show in Macon Ga. The cop on duty took down the serial number and ran it for me. I had traded an air weight smith for it. Ported and with night sights on it, so i think I came out better than he did.
