Yesterday my wife wanted to go to the old Christy Gun Works about 20 minutes away. Actually, she wanted to go to the antique mall that's in the old building now. Last time I was there I asked about the underground shooting range and was told it's been closed up and you can't go down there. I of course asked if they still had boxes of gun parts stashed anywhere but no luck. It kind of fascinates me going to this place where people were hard at work rebuilding sixguns for the likes of Elmer Keith, Skeeter Skelton, and scores of other old time shooters from the past.

Bought an 1882 1st gen Colt SAA with a 7 1/2" Christy barrel back in 1962. It had been renickelled at some point but still had the original cylinder. Not quite straight but not too bad either. $84 out the door.

I installed a new Colt barrel that was much nicer as soon as I could afford it and tossed the Christy. Eventually replaced the old cylinder as well. All in all, though, it still looks pretty darned good 55 years on!
