WE'VE DONE AS MUCH AS WE CAN FOR HURRICANE MILTON SLOWLY APPROACHING - NERVE RACKING!

Battery bank charged up.
Inverter working.
Scuba tanks on standby.
Tornados are our biggest threat.

Heard a channel 5 weather gal say:
Your Television is too heavy to carry,
so take your radio with you to keep in
touch with us.

Momma's happy.
South facing window with neighbor's overgrown black olive about 45 ft. away to the SE.
Fitted these after Andrew in '90, each panel about 18-20lbs. of galvanized. Surface rust only.
I wasn't going to bother but after the 3rd tornado warning about 10 mile west I decided to hang these and drop the awnings on the west side.
I'm not concerned with the core of the storms but the outer bands are always a wild card.

These are the quotes I hate. They are usually made by the media like the weather channel. She could have said dangerous, ill advised, risky……. But NO she went with unsurvivable. So if you stay. You will die?!?!?!?!?! Good grief.

Some people need to be smacked right between the eyes with a 2x4 to get the message.

I just finished buttoning up, even cleared the garage so the wife's car and truck fit. Nothing unsecured outside. The last thing I did was wedge a chunk of 2x4 in the entryway doors. EMS said double doors can be blown open with 100+ mph wind. We're almost 80 miles from the Gulf and it's already a raging windy ****storm. NOAA update in 13 minutes. Joe

Here in North Central Florida about 120 miles North of Tampa in the middle oif the state this one looks like it will mainly be rain and lost power for us. Generator will run tv's fridge freezer and a few lights and fans. The plus this time is the weather will be much cooler than any I can remember. Helene left us without power for 4 days. My niece and her husband lost their restaurant in Steinhatchee.

Milton is coming right at my son and daughter. The daughters house is in St Pete and the son is in Brandon. Neither should flood but the wind is going to be strong. My daughter did go to stay with friends on the east side of the bay thank goodness.

I have lived here for 66 years. The worst year so far was 2004 when we had 4 storms all back to back with a couple weeks of no power and hot and humid August weather.

This one is going to do some serious damage because it is hitting a highly populated area. A lot of people left the SW coast as the interstate was pumper to pumper for 3 days. Prayers for all in the path of Milton.

"I turn on the TV and a news person is standing in the storm getting blown around. Why do news channels do that"?

Visual effect, publicity, machismo, ratings, bragging rights, but mostly stupidity.

So basically, the same reasons people stay to "weather" the storms.

Is it that you have a cultural revulsion of telling people they will die, or do you have so much faith in the ability of humans to survive that you find the statement unacceptable.

The "Waffle House Index" says "Hold your ears folks, it's showtime!" Almost 100 are closed across Florida which ain't good. Sipping tea, contemplating my powerlessness in the large scale picture while waiting for Milton to come knocking. Joe

NEITHER!!!!! I’m tired of every idiot who gets on camera for 10 seconds trying to out do the other. They are going for wow affect and shock value. They want people to say “ whoa did you hear what they said”. Living in western NY it’s a constant barrage of **** every time it snows. I own waterfront property in Naples Fl and it’s a barrage of **** every hurricane season. People have enough on their mind and enough worries without some goofball tv personality (cause that’s what they are personalities) trying to gain their 10 seconds of fame. Reporters no longer report. They haven’t for 25 yrs.

Waiting on the 8pm NOAA report. I don't even glance at "local news." Curfew until 10 am tomoeeow starts at 8pm also. Most LE agencies have made statements: "We are fast approaching a point where we will not respond..."
Anyone out now is either nuts or up to no good. Everything is shut down. Joe

I went out around 3 to get some KFC, they were closed, Wendy's next door was closed, and Checkers was closed.

Chick Fi Lay, and Taco Bell were open. Really wanted KFC, but Taco Bell it was.

Radar indicates Sarasota is taking a direct hit from the eye. This is not good new for Port Charlotte to the south.

I found out we're also under a curfew. We've had some tornado damage in the county but nothing remotely like a midwest tornado. I like our sheriff fairly well but I have issues with issuing curfews under most circumstances. I just lost power so see you later.

I have a family member across the bridge in Punta Gorda, he said he evacuated south this morning. He said at 7:00pm a neighbor told him the water was halfway up to the houses (they are on a canal that goes into the gulf).
He said the neighbor guessed they were at 5' elevation of water, his house is 12' elevation and they were predicting 14' elevation. Their house is 5 years old, so wind isn't a concern but flooding is.
