What ammo have you had issues with?

one of my mags dont like steel cased ammo its hard to load in to it and hard to strip around off even by hand but the other one. its just fine with steel maybe it needs broken in more

I've only put 260 rounds thru my Shield. A mixture of Fiochhi, UMC, WWB, Blazer, Golden Saber +P, Hornady XTP, and Federal HST. Only problem I had was one FTE with the UMC.

I just ordered 2 of the WWB value packs. Several have mentioned having problems with them, so, my fingers are crossed. The first WWB I used was a box of 50 that I have had for about 12 years.

Thanks to great forum's like this one, I have learned to stay away from Tulammo. So far have never had any ammo problems. Mainly just use Blazer & Federal ammo. No worries

It works just fine in my sks. But that's essentially what it's made for!

I'd never trust it or it's siblings in my good semi auto pistolas.

Out of 3 M&P's I had problems with 2. Only the 45 eats everything the 9 and the 357 SIG had extracting and feeding problems with Steel and Independence brand along with some others. I kept the 45 but I'm thinking of dropping it in favor of HK45c or Glock 30

M&P 40 FS here, zero failures with any brand or bullet weight/configurations so far. Have about 1300 rounds of .40 and just under 1000 9mm (w/conversion barrel & 9mm mags). Even when mixing various brands, bullets weight & types in a single magazine she burns right through w/o a hiccup. I really love this weapon.

WW White Value Packs & SXT, Federal Bulk Packs & Hydroshoks, Fiocchi, Blazer, Remington (Various MC, FP, JHP) & PMC

I have problems with the ammo I can't find...it sure won't work in my guns!

I haven't had any problems...but then, I don't buy anything but good quality factory ammo. Maybe I've been lucky, and I'm jinxing myself now, but I don't buy cheap stuff and I don't reload. (No offense intended to anyone who does either.)

Everything has gone bang in M&P40Pro and Shield9. Mostly shoot factory reloads (laxammo.com) and Hornady Critical Duty, but have shot FMJ Blazer, Remington, Winchester white box in both with no issues.

Primer height

I sometimes forget to follow the old adage that you should not judge the reliability or quality of a firearm with handloads. I had several failures to fire with my new M&P .45 which I eventually traced to slightly high primers in my reloads as factory ammo seemed to function just fine. Anyway, invested in a Sinclair primer pocket uniformer and I use Federal primers, known to be soft. Haven't had a FTF since.

As the senior firearms instructor of a LE agency, I've seen many defective rounds right in the box. For carry, most defects can be found by inspecting the rounds, including test chambering in a barrel that's been removed from the handgun. The one thing you can't inspect for is proper powder charge and whether or not the flash hole is missing.

My M&P40 Pro doesn't like aluminum cases, otherwise no issues. I haven't tried steel cases with it though.

Had a couple of Failures to Feed with a 100 round value pack of WWB. In fact one of them was due to an undercharged round....very noticeably lighter than the other rounds. No more WWB for me

I find it interesting that you would come on a S&W M&P forum and state that.

In fact, the Glock is the pistol I see the most problems with. Maybe that's because it is quite prevalent, but I've seen them fail more than any other pistol. At the local range and at several training classes I've been to, it's always the people with the Glocks that have multiple malfunctions. Could be ammo, could be shooter, could be the gun. Still, that's what I've seen.

What has surprised me is that the 1911 has had the least malfunctions. Maybe it's because there are less of them out there, but that too is what I've observed.

I purchased 1000 rds Aguila 117 JHP...had 7 failures to fire and 2 failures to feed with my Shield9...I took the rounds that had failed and shot them in my Glock 26 with no issues. I have shot both over 1000 rds each using steel cased, cheap, carry ammo, etc...my Glock has never (repeat) never failed to fire. We all have personal experiences that influence our opinion...I love my Shield9...

Adding one from yesterday.

First time I ever tried PPU 38 special (158 gr LRN) in my wife's 686-6 snub. While it all fired, about half of the rounds either tumbled (key holed) and/or flew a bit wildly. Not off into nowhere, but certainly not where we were aiming.

I had issues with every ammo tried in one of the two first MP40 full size guns I received. The pistol refused to fire a full magazine without at least one round that did not fire. Those two pistols were from the very first run.

The assumption was light primer strikes, but upon inspection, S&W said the headspace was not right. They replaced the barrel, slide (the new slide had night sights, which is the batch they happened to be making at the time), and if I recall, they threw in an extra magazine. The pistol was returned within about a week, and has been flawless ever since.

I have about 700 hand loads that refuse to extract - the powder is W231, the weight of the bullet is 115 gr, Berry brass coated, the recipe is low 3.9 gn. I also have a couple of hundred rounds at 4.5gn – neither of which fully cycle the M&P = FTX. ValuePak Federals however easily cycle through the M&P like **** through a tin goose.

These are my std. range bullets and they cycle easily, with no FTX problems through my Ruger 9mm.

I just ordered a lesser weight recoil spring and guide rod from MidWestUSA [12# rather than the stock 16#] Should get it installed in the gun for this coming weekend shooting.
I'll let everyone know how it goes.

PS anyone know the type of powder and the recipe for Federal ValuePak 100 rounds of 9mm?

I had a 9FS that didn't care for WWB, but sold it. My pro has had a single FTE that I attribute to excessive press checking (I know better, but did it anyway) with Fiocchi. Unfortnately that was during the rapid fire test for my CHL!

I use 4.7gr 231 under a 115gr plated RN bullet and 4.3 under a 124gr RN. Haven't had a problem with either in over 30K rounds shot. I still have stock springs in my M&P's.

700 rounds downrange with my Shield 9. Fiocchi, PMC, Corbon, Win PDX1, Gold Dot, Hornady FTX and even today 120 rds. of Selway's Ugly Ammo (bulk 250 rd. can)...no problems. One FTE with Golden Saber 124 +P.

In shooting 1911's for over 38 years, they ate everything and asked for seconds. I've never owned a Glock. I tried a friend's out at the range a few years back and didn't like the feel of the gun. Not saying it is bad, just no good for me.
