I just purchased a 625 .45acp, and I am in need of your expertize mates.
What brand of moonclips are the best?

(I plan of getting 100 moonclips so I can do a normal practise session, and do the moonclipping at home)

With the revolver came 4 moonclips, they look very alike wilsons moonclips, are they in fact Wilsons?

Btw, does anybody know what moonclips Jerry Miculek uses?

While at it mates, do I need a demooner/remooner, and if so what do you recommend?

Any help is greatly appreciated mates,

You can't go wrong with Ranch moonclips. Actually, I'm not aware that anybody makes any bad steel moonclips for the .45 revolvers. The .45 ACP is a foolproof cartridge when it comes to being moonclipped. I think if you buy directly from Ranch you can get them in quantity pretty cheap.

I will never again pay money for a de-mooner tool. I make them myself by notching a piece of copper pipe.

The .45 ACP cartridge readily snaps into the moonclips with finger pressure. I do not understand the need for a device that will do this for me. Most if not all of the rimmed cartridges can be pretty tough, but the .45 ACP is a snap, pun intended.

You will soon discover that the .45 ACP cartridge is far more useful in revolvers than autos.

+1 on Ranch Products, last time I checked they were around $35 for a hundred.

Okey, I have 2 votes on Ranch and 2 votes on TK...

I found TK moonclips homepage, are we talking the 19:95 set or the TK Custom 69:95? (Latter is sure a lot of dough for 10 moonclips...)

Also I notice that Ranch homepage does not accept VISA so I dont know how to order from them as I live in Sweden... *sure is the wrong place if youre interested in competition shooting*

I'll eagerly follow the thread to check out your replies mates!

I've used the Wilson moon clips for over 20 years and have never had one fail yet. I use the moon clip stripper tool with a screwdriver handle from Brownells (which is also where I get the Wilson moon clips). For .45 cartridges I put them in the moon clips with my fingers. My wife's fingers aren't as strong as mine, so she uses a Pat Prudhome moonsetter tool, also from Brownells.

For .38/.357 moon clips I use the same kind of moon clip stripper tool from Brownells, but it is specific to the smaller cartridges (although I'm told it will also work for demooning 40 S&W and 10mm cases). I have a Pat Prudhome moonsetter tool specific for .38/.357. These cases are FAR harder to get in the clips than .45s, so the tool is essential. For .38/.357 moon clips I use TK Custom clips. For .38/.357 you have to order the clips for the brand cases you are using because the notch in front of the cartridge rim varies in size depending upon the manufacturer. TK makes clips of different thickness for the different cases. Luckily you don't have this problem with .45 ACP cases.

I can heartily recommend both Wilson and TK Custom moon clips!

Buy them from Brownells.com or MidwayUSA.com and you can use your credit card.

I use the Ranch Products moonclips in 6x45ACP, 6x40 (both L & Nframe), 6x38 Super, 8x38 Super, 6x38/357 and 8x38/357. They are quality products at a very reasonable price. You cannot order from the Ranch Products website but a call will get you the moonclips you need. The last time I purchased 45 ACp moonclips they were $35/100 blied and $50/100 stainless.

I agree with others on not using a mooner. The demooner I made is similar to the copper tube method. Find an old golf club and cut it off at a point where the diameter will allow a .45 acp brass to fit. Look at pictures of other tube type demooners. Discard the Club end. You will need to remove about 3mm of the metal about 3/4 off the way around the opening in the shank of the handle end . To use slip the shank over the shell in the moon clip, then rotate the handle and the tab (3mm not removed) on the shank will lever the shell out of the clip and it will drop into the handle. You can process a couple of clips before you have to empty the handle.

We have Ranch clips in your neighborhood, Norway, if it helps.

Sent you a PM.

Have put the Federal brass away, a bad fit.

Another vote for Ranch Products. Made here in Ohio. I've talked to the gentleman who runs it- great guy.
