What are your 3 favorite western movies?

All great movies. Some I had forgotten.

Blazing Saddles.......I haven't seen that in years. Hilarious.

I agree with you guys, if its got the Duke or Clint in it, I'm watching.

They broke the mold with those two. Never be another like em.

I cannot stomach any new movies.

Djhango Unchained? No thanks. Give me the classics.

Full bore, testosterone filled, red blooded American westerns.

Could someone indulge a quick question, if it's not considered a hijack?

In Open Range, how could Charley and Boss ride together for ten years, and know as little as they did about each other's backgrounds and character traits until the avenged Mose's death?

Disregard if it's considered a hijack.

"Click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click."

The distinctive sound of hammers falling on empty cylinders on a matched pair of 1847 Colt Walkers, converted for the movie from percussion cap to metal cartridge except in a select few scenes where close-ups demanded accuracy to the original.

That's according to The Internet Movie Firearms Database, my new second favorite site behind this one!:D

No hijack friend......ask away.

Unfortunately, I cannot answer this one.

"In this world there's two kinds of people, my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig."

Clint Eastwood
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

"You see, my mule don't like people laughing. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it."

Clint.....A Fistful of Dollars

Amen, brother.

When Clint made "Unforgiven," I thought he'd truly reached a pinnacle in his career -- a different sort of anti-hero, with the creaks and aches of old age nicely coupled with the hardness of a gunfighter who would always have an edge to him. Great line from that movie: "Deserves got nothin' to do with it," spoken to the dying bad-guy sheriff played by Gene Hackman.

I think Clint still has another one in him.....hope we see it.

1. "All Quiet on the Western Front":D

2. "Lawrence of Arabia" (a Middle-Eastern western with deserts, railroads, horses, camels, Arab cowboys and Turkish Indians)

3. "Dr Zhivago" -- kind of like "Doc Holliday" except with much hotter women, better weaponry, horse-drawn sleighs and lots of snow.

There are so many really great films to pick from, but if you call for three then here is mine:

1) Open Range
2) Unforgiven
3) The Quick and the Dead

Honorable Mention:
3:10 to Yuma
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
Pale Rider

Lonesome dove
Tombstone
The good, the bad and the ugly (because if you don't get pumped by the ecstasy of gold in soundtrack you hate America)

Also I always stop down for some young guns and blazing saddles.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk and if there are spelling errors, blame my iPhone...not my laziness.

Henry Fonda did an excellent job of playing villains and good guys, such as in Once upon a time in the West; Firecreek; and Welcome to Hard Times.

1. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
"Liberty Valance???? That's the toughest man south of the picket wire..............next to me."

2. True Grit, the one with John Wayne though Glen Campbell stunk it up. I refuse to watch the remake.

3. Outlaw Josey Wales, Clint Eastwood at his best.

Honorable Mention
Treasure of the Sierra Madre, "Badges? We don't need no stiking badges".
Stagecoach, Young Duke twirling that Winchester 92.
The Searchers, "You speak pretty good American for a Comanche.
Unforgiven
Pale Rider
The Shootist, "Well pardon me all to hell."

I didn't read throught the whole thread but here's my picks;

1. Open Range - best old west gunfight on film
2. The Outlaw Josey Wales - Clint at his best while portraying a CSA veteran
3. Wyatt Earp - the closest to being historically accurate
4. Appaloosa for honorary mention - plain old west tough guys

Why just three? I can't do it. So my top 7.

1.)El Dorado
2.)Big Jake
3.)The Outlaw Josey Wales
4.)The Wild Bunch
5.)Tombstone
6.)Unforgiven
7.)Rio Bravo

2. True Grit, the one with John Wayne though Glen Campbell stunk it up. I refuse to watch the remake.

The remake is actually pretty good, though it drove me insane to see Jeff Bridges with the patch over the right eye, but shooting the revolver and the rifle right handed.
