What caliber do you use that you've never bought commercially?

I don't use factory ammo as a rule. I don't buy it but end up with it on deals. My guns are sighted for hand loads, factory would just be a bang to get brass. I bought 30/06; 35Rem, 44 mag, 375H&H over 55 yrs ago. Not much else. I have over 100 boxes of cf factory ammo I will never fire from 22Hornet to 458mg.

240 Weatherby Magnum. Although the brass per 20 is expensive, it's a mile cheaper than loaded ammunition. Rifle is built on a S&W 1500 frame.

I guess the only caliber and gun I've had that I've never bought factory ammo for was a 357 Max Blackhawk I used to own. I have never seen factory 357 Max ammo either.

I have never bought any loaded 44 magnum rounds. I did buy one box of 357 about 15 years ago. I also bought two boxes of 45acp about six years ago to get the brass.

I think I have two boxes of original Remington 357 max and two boxes of Dan Wesson 357 max ammo for collector interest. I bought the Remington in the 80's And the Dan wesson in the Tulsa gun show 4 years ago. I still have both the Ruger Blackhawk and the dan wesson 357 max revolvers. pretty much reload any centerfire I have.

.223 and .44 special others in very limited amounts but those two I guarantee I don't have a single commercial round of.

44 Special and Magnum for me.

I've bought defensive ammo for each caliber. But anything I regularly shoot at the range are my reloads. Maybe 5 factory rounds through one of my 44 Specials, zero through my Flattop and 44 factory Magnum rounds through my Alaskan just for the sake of acquiring my first brass for reloading the caliber.

.380 is the only one I've never bought loaded ammo. I started reloading it when I got a G42.

Just remembered, I've never bought .38spl either, and reloaded a bunch of it.

I blame nearly 2 months of no shooting and a couple weeks of quarantine. I haven't even seen my guns for several weeks.

Very good original question! I had to stop & think a minute, but only came up with a few.

38 special, 44 special, 45 auto rim, 32-20 and 10mm. Oh, and 32 H&R magnum. I feel like I'm missing one for some reason.

My first 41 magnum was a 3 screw Blackhawk, and I wanted to shoot it bad, without waiting to purchase brass, bullets and dies. So badly that I forked over $54 bucks for the only box the store had. It was some sort of "extreme terminal" something or another. I still have about 1/2 of that box, figuring it was "special". LOL!

But mostly it's because I had to stop the brutal assault on my hand by ordering some ugly (but so sweet) Hogues, buying the reloading components in the same order. I think I developed a flinch shooting that first cylinder.

444 marlin, 44 Mag, 218 bee, 308 Norma Mag. None of these ever had any factory ammo.

The only round I shoot now that I never bought ammo for is the 30 Herrett. Never was any factory loads. And speaking of the 357Max, still have a box, coded 357 MX3, of the Remington 180gr sjhp's that I bought back in the day to use in my T/C super14. Paid $9.80.

IT may sound a bit shocking but I have never fired one single round of commercial 223 Remington, every single round fired have been hand loads. In part because my first AR was a home built precision rifle equipped with a 20 inch Shilen barrel and it will shoot under 3/10 inch at 100 yards. When you build a first class rifle you don't feed it budget ammo. BTW, most accurate bullet is a Hornady BTHP at 68 grains.

.44 Russian, .45-60, and .45-70 (sort of).

I load my .45-70 as the carbine load with 55 grains of black powder with a 405 grain hollow base bullet.

22 Harvey Kay Chuck, 30-338, 350 Remington magnum, 44 Russian, 45-70
32S&W, 30 & 357 Herrett

I have bought 22 jet, 32 S&W long, 6mm Remington, 45 colt, but its either been a while or a mainly way to get some brass.

That would have to be my .50-70 Government Chiappa Sharps carbine.

The same when I had my .43 Spanish Remington Rolling Block.

I had no choice when I had my Remington #4 Rolling Block in .32 Rimfire. I was buying "cases" that you could reload from Dixie Gun Works, using a .22 blank as a primer, then load the case with black powder and I actually found heeled bullets that fit in the case and they worked very well. Someone offered me a tidy sum for the rifle and the cases so I sold them, especially since I found a #4 in .22 LR which is much easier to get ammo for in a gun the same exact size.

You could also use .310 lead round balls and file a flat spot in it so it would seat against the powder, it wasn't all that accurate compared to the heeled bullets.
