What could possibly be cooler than a M4506

I really like the look of the square trigger guard with the no-step frame on your 4506's BMCM, reminds me of a 3906. Congrats on a second one, I'll have to keep my eye out for a transitional like this (though I prefer the fixed sights).

We carried a 4506 when we upgraded from a 645. I took mine to the range once before I retired. I was given my duty sidearm upon retirement. The 4506 is built like a tank and is an accurate shooter, I have carried a CS45 since retirement. I too love the gen 3 pistols.

Great guns there...I'll try to ignore the square trigger guards. With all that excess metal how hard would it be to round it off?

It would not be hard at all to round off with a file, then clean it up with some sandpaper and a gray 3M pad. I have a 3906 that someone did this too and it looks fine.

BMCM's examples here are special because of the square trigger guard and non-stepped frame that the earlier 4506's had though. You might be better off looking for a later 4506-1 or R3 that came with the rounded trigger guard.

I do have a scheme in mind for some stuff in the parts bin. Namely, a spare fixed sight slide assembly I acquired a while back and new never fitted R3 barrel along with a few other doodads I've got scattered about ;) Might involve some molten salts and bubbling nitrogen too for that two tone goodness.

Cheers

All the 5" S&W Autos have a definite cool factor. Here is my 4506 with a 5" .40 (PC 40 Tactical) and a 5" 9mm (5906 with custom slide):

The 4506 is wearing a Millett adjustable rear sight now. I take a pic later and post it.

Well, how about two of 'em:cool:

My Postman brought me the #71 gun today. I imagine these two could have both been built the same day being only 31 digits apart.

I sure am liking these transitional guns...Going to be on the lookout for a 4566 now

Might have to start working on my dual wielding skills too:rolleyes: ;)

Cheers
Bill

There's a NIB beauty of a 4506 transitional up on that auction site right now with a buy-it-now that's not totally unreasonable. Piggybacking on your thread, Bill, and just hoping someone here might jump on it....

That sounds like an interesting project, and would make a very unique 4506... :D

As mentioned in my post above, I replaced the S&W adjustable site with a Millett adjustable site. Here are a few pics on what it looks like now:

The increased site radius is a plus.

I aslo wanted to mention that I run all versions of the S&W .45ACP mags through this gun (including 645 mags), and never had a problem with any of them:

Gone....didn't last a day. :)

How about a 4505? They only made 1200 of them in 1990/91.
Here's mine, shipped Oct 1990.

Customized 4506s BMCM? I'm going to need a 2nd part time job. ;)

My "pawn shop rescue" 4506-1 could use a spurless hammer, some action work and a Melonite finish. Where do I send my check? :) Regards 18DAI

I dont have a picture of it right now will have to dig it out of the safe the first chance I get, but for what's cooler how about an adjustable sighted 4505?

Early 4506 with extended slide release - among my favorites......
