BAD EXPERIENCE WITH IT

Gun

STI 6" PPC 9mm 3.5# trigger press 10lbs recoil spring

115 grain loads about 1100 fps

trigger break on this gun is soft compared to my other 3.5 trigger Springer

I used the lighter stuff

I put it on the hammer/sear surface and the slide rails

Temp was 90s

gummed up the action enough to cause misfires with my reloads.

during practice match pause between stages, I was lent a can of brake cleaner....and I sprayed my gun. while it improved it function...still had misfires. definitely hurt my average.

took the gun home....detailed stripped....lubed with oil. ran 100% with the same reloads.

I will not use it on competition soft recoiling match guns.

make sure your gun works before carrying on duty or CCW with this stuff on.

I have had very good results with it on my .40 S&W SVI Limited 10 gun and in my .45 ACP carry pistol. I use it on the slide rails, disconnector slot in the slide, the barrel/bushing interface, and on the barrel lugs. No issues with function or wear. The stuff says put and seems to do just fine with high round count shooting.

I agree that it is not suitable for powder-puff loads unless one uses a very weak recoil spring and do not use it in my Bullseye or PPC guns.

I've been running Slide Glide standard in my issue pistols- one P228, a slick P229, a P229R and now one G-19M and 26. The 228 and 229R got the most use over the course of 19 years, the Glocks we've been running since 2020. The stuff just plain works and prior to starting using it I had tried other greases. They'd leech out over time where Slide Glide actually does stay in place. Even in temperature extremes I've gotten great performance with the standard weight. From the moderate climates in America and Europe to north Africa, the Middle East, Russia and the Caucuses it's worked. It doesn't run out. It kills wear in the top end of self loaders and has worked well for me in temps as high as 120 F to as low as -25 F. In the cold, my pistol would slow down a little but it never stopped. The heat from my body kept would keep things where they needed to be to still let her run. A recent check of Brian's site shows that he's just selling tubes now but over the past 22 years I've bought maybe three of the small tubs, like 1.5 or 2 oz, and have yet to completely empty one. I've compared my pistols well into the scores of thousands of rounds on them, with fellow agents' pieces and the difference is remarkable looking at the wear on theirs compared to the almost complete absence of it on mine. Following Brian's application instructions, using those little chrome plated hobby cheap short bristle paint brushes to apply the stuff to the appropriate wear points on the barrel, slide, frame and recoil spring/guide rod assemblies, it does stay put. I load up the recoil spring/guide rod, cycle the piece several times to force any excess out, wipe off and that's it. Being inherently lazy, this stuff has permitted me to clean my pistols more as an afterthought than a real necessity as I've never had other than ammunition related stoppages while using SG.

I was issued a Model 39 (zero) at the IL state police academy in 1968. Back then, we used the little "toothpaste" tube of Gunslick that came in every Outers gun cleaning kit. I bought my Model 39 from ISP when they went to the 439 in about 1980. I still have it, been using Gunslick since my academy days. The all-original 39 is still accurate. Unfortunately, Gunslick is difficult or impossible to find these days.

Gentlemen, this thread is 12 years old and the OP was last here almost 8 years ago. Please feel free to post your experiences with Slide Glide in a new Gunsmithing thread, thread closed. :)
