What gun and load did you use for your ccw test?

I used a Ruger MKII .22 lr. Why, well in my state if you qualify with a auto you can carry a revolver, semi auto or a derringer.

It covered the bases and was cheap and convinent. I carry mostly a M36 or M60 revolver with an occasional Ruger 9mm or 45 acp auto.

I used my S&W model 66. It was in a down pour! My ammo box melted! With the target only 21 feet away, it was hard not to shoot good groups.

I used my Colt 1911 GI45. Under Texas law, if you qualify with a revolver you can only carry a revolver, but if you qualify with a semi-auto you can carry either. Much of the time, I'll carry my S&W 637, at least in the warm months.

I used a Ruger P93, it was the gun I was most familar with at the time and I had more magazines for it so reloading was not a promblem. We shot 48 rounds a 7 yards so it was really not that difficult and there was only 2 of us in the class so it was quick.

Eventhough Virginia doesn't require a range qualification, I took a training class designed for Private Investigators that included range qualification. It was a lot of fun!

I used a Ruger Security-Six and Win Silvertips.

Here was the course of fire:
6 VAC 20-171-370. Entry level handgun training.
C. Course: Virginia Private Security Course of Fire for Handguns. The course of fire shall be conducted using, at a minimum, the requirements set forth in subsection B of this section. Strong/weak hand refers to the primary hand used in firing the firearm. The opposite hand may be used for support. The course of fire shall be conducted in the following phases:
1. Phase 1; 3 yards, utilizing weaver, Modified Weaver, or isosceles stance, 18 rounds:
a. Load 6 rounds and holster loaded firearm.
b. On command, draw and fire 2 rounds (3 seconds), repeat.
c. Load 6 rounds and holster loaded firearm.
d. On command, draw and fire 6 rounds with strong hand.
e. Unload, reload 6 rounds and fire 6 rounds with weak hand (25 seconds).
2. Phase 2; 7 yards, utilizing weaver, Modified Weaver, or isosceles stance, 24 rounds:
a. Load 6 rounds and holster loaded firearm.
b. On command, draw and fire 1 round (2 seconds), repeat.
c. Load 6 rounds and holster loaded firearm.
d. On command, draw and fire 2 rounds (3 seconds), repeat.
e. Load 6 rounds and holster loaded firearm.
f. On command, draw and fire 6 rounds, reload 6 rounds, fire 6 rounds (30 seconds).
3. Phase 3; 15 yards, 70 seconds, 18 rounds:
a. Load 6 rounds and holster loaded firearm.
b. On command, assume kneeling position, draw and fire 6 rounds with strong hand.
c. Assume standing position, unload, reload and fire 6 rounds from weak-hand barricade position.
d. Unload, reload and fire 6 rounds from strong-hand barricade position (Kneeling position may be fired using barricade position.) (70 seconds).

I ended up blowing one into the 9 ring, weak hand on a B-27 target. Oh, well. Most of the others were Xs.

442-1...

Did better than the other 8 guys in the class with 9mm semi-autos too.

I used my Colt Govt 1911 with Winchester WB ammo. My wife used a Smith 5904 with Winchester WB also. We both got'er done, 50/50 for me and 49/50 for her.

For my actual qualification, I shot my dad's S&W 686 loaded with 158g LSWC's .38's.

For my first year of CCW, I carried a Colt Detecive Special. Since them I've moved on to a 1911/Glock 19. I need to add a j-frame for pocket carry though.

I used my 686 stainless with .38 semi wadcutters for the 1st 15 shots and followed that with magnums. When I started firing the magnum, everyone stopped what they were doing! LOL

State of Texas, if you test with a revolver you can only carry a revolver. If you fire a semi-auto, you can carry either.
New Mexico is that way now, with the largest caliber in semi-auto will cover calibers below in both. However, when it first started, we had to bring each caliber in both divisions to be posted on our card. Bringing all the weapons to the range was like we were preparing for combat. I had a S&W 1917 revolver, a 686, Model 10, and a 9mm 547 which really confused the instructor. On the semi-auto side, I had a Sistema .45, Daewoo 9 & 40. FMJ for all the tests.

Sounds like we had a unique experience. Our instructor, an ex-Colorado State Patrol guy, brought his pickup full of guns. We all shot everything imaginable. He had everything from 22 revolvers to 22 semi-auto's, to .45 long colt, to .45 whatever and everything in between. After that, we shot whatever we brought with us. Walther P22's to XD40's to whatever. It was as much fun as I've ever had at a range. The bride and I were out at the Cowboy Steel range last weekend, and he had another class there, they were in gun heaven.

Good times...

Jeff

Test, what test? In Montana all you have to do is prove that you passed hunters education.

Man I love my state!!!

Hey Folks!
How about a Colt Double Eagle in 10mm. Also qualifed with local SOT team (Medic) with the same gun.
The gun shop I did my CCW in the instructor thought it was a custom gun cause he never heard of a Double Eagle or 10mm.
Take care and God Bless...HT
