What is needed to convert 686 to 7 shot

Other than cylinder and ratchet what else is needed to convert a 686 to a 7 shot?

Does the hand need replacing as well?

yup; cylinder assembly (cylinder + extractor star) and hand; that oughtta do it.

When my 7 didn't carry up the way I wanted I replaced the hand with one from the parts drawer that had been purchased for the 6 shot. Works fine. More I thought about it, it would be a manufacturing/parts/assemblers nightmare at the factory to have to use different hands.

+1. I think the hands are the same part, but every hand has to be fitted to the specific cylinder/star assembly so you probably will need to buy a new hand to fit up.
