What is your favorite gun for concealed carry? Why?

So many good choices and I can't really argue with any of them. I'd say the gun I carry most often is a Commander length 1911 in .45 acp. Currently it is a DW Valor bobtail in stainless. Pretty much has everything I want and I'm really comfortable with it. I do also like to carry a wheelgun and my most frequently carried of those would probably be a 3" K-frame like the Model 65 pictured with its Model 13 cousin

My favorite is this Clark/Dietrich custom Colt 1991A1 Compact. It's 100% reliable, very accurate, great action, and looks damn good, too.

That's an interesting-looking gun for sure. To me, it sort of looks like a 1950 Mercury, chopped and channeled!

A Sig Sauer 40 caliber P239 equipped with Hogue Combat Rubber grips. I've reached the age where I can't see handgun sights in anything less than full daylight so all my handgun shooting with iron sights is point shooting. What I've discovered is that the P239 with these grips is an absolutely perfect pointer in my hands. I also like the DA/SA design, don't have to remember a safety and the DA trigger is heavy enough that I'm not going to fire it by accident. Finally, by thumbing the hammer while holstering it I have no concerns that I'll ever snag the trigger and shoot myself.

Alternate carry is a Ruger SR1911. That one I will have to remember the safety on but I've never been prone to panic or "freezing" in a high stress situation so I expect I'll be able to remember the safety. As a Pointer I've found the 1911 to be nearly as perfect as my Sig and the stainless steel does make it easier to reference off the gun in Point. Pluses for the Ruger is that it's actually slimmer than the P239 and thus more comfortable and that it fires a big fat heavy slug. Minuses for some might be it's weight, however I really don't notice it.

Lots of beautiful guns,

but if I were to show my CCGs, you would laugh. All look like they have been used hard and put away wet. Lots of nicks and scratches, missing finish, etc. Mine are tools, none collectable.

My 296, 396, and 642 look like they need a refinish, as do all of my Scandium guns. :(

That said, I sure like to look at all of the pretty guns.:D

I was a LEO for 30 years & have been retired for 15 and carried a small .38 the entire time. My first was a Colt Cobra (still have it and carry it) and my current EDC is a 442. My current orbits are relatively tame and while I do have a Glock 23 (former service weapon) and a Keltec .32 my confidence lies in a revolver.

More than once during my career I had to use my duty revolver (.38 +P FBI load) and it just worked, every time.

Winter carry: 9c, spare mag

Summer/Milk carry: LCR, 2 x speed strips

I want something reliable, and accurate in my hand(s). Flexibility in ammo is a plus. Everywhere legal, a little five shot S&W J frame 38/357 can always be there. On my time, other pistols may work better as primary, but the little J frame is the single most often carried piece, and in practice it keeps me honest.

Glock 19 (3rd gen) in a custom kydex IWB from Dustin at Ozark Holster.

A Ruger LCP in the DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster for back-up.

As for why; although the Glock is a stupid, blocky, generic firearm - it does everything I ask of it. Reliable, accurate, and lots of firepower in a very managable package. A few years ago I was carrying a Sig 239, but after having both, the dimensions and weight are almost indistinguishable. The Glock had almost twice the payload, and the final deciding factor...I actually shoot the Glock better.

My first carry piece was a 12-2 snub in .38 that I still have and carry rarely. It's still a favorite, for sentimental reasons if not practical.

for ccw 640 or 642 simple reliable and proven,
Lately I am finding myself seeking an auto (med to full size) Just because
with good sights.

scooter123,
You are right about the 239 had one in 40S&W with hogue wraparounds
and it was a dream in .40 and great shooter kinda sorry it is no longer in the safe.

I carry two J frame 38 Special revolvers. Gun(s) are very light, allow for pocket carry (BUG); and are in a proven caliber. Primary is IWB at 4o'clock and BUG in left front pants pocket. In fall and winter primary is in right coat pocket; BUG in inside left breast pocket. This "system" works very, very well for me. I am conscious that YMMVH.

I just started carrying my J frame Airweight at 4 o'clock IWB with a Crossbread holster. I'm really liking it. Very comfortable. I thought the gun would poke me in the back, but its actually very liveable. I used to carry appendix, but this is better IMO.

Winter carry- SW 1911ES in crossbreed supertuck. I like the bigger punch of .45 1911 is slim fits well IWB.

Summer/Winter - SW shield .40 in crossbreed supertuck or galco ankle holster.

Im going to try shield in ankle holster or UnderTech shirt while on duty.
