My sentimental favorite is an M1911, like I used my last two wars. Figuring .45 ACP is likely to be scarce, the CZ-75 would be easier to keep fed.
If some of you guys ever get called to war you are going to need a caddy to carry all your firearms for you.

On a side note, I'm delighted to see that this thread continues to receive replies so long after I posted it, as I like seeing what other folks would carry.
Some of these choices are very stylish. I especially like the references to back up pieces and knives. Throw those in the pile with the other 45 Lbs of gear and rifle and battle load of ammo. Won't be long before you are throwing away the Jokers out of your deck just to lighten the load.

That implies that bullet diameter is everything. It's not.
A .44magum is a LOT more powerful than a .45acp.
And a .357magnum is more powerful than a .45acp.
