What is your personal grail gun?

I know this is a Smith and Wesson forum.....but I must be honest, right now I'm hankering bad for a 3" KLCRx .357 Magnum to carry while bird hunting/hiking. They're not making one , yet, but I reckon they will be soon! I reckon they're gonna run about $550.00-$600.00, and that's what I'm willing to pay!

1961-1980 S&W Revolver's:
3.5" Model 27'ish w/ 3T's
629 No Dash 4"
Would like to pay $1,200 for but I know that's low, maybe about right for the 629.

Overall Grail: Either one of these two...

.44HE Model of 1926 Target, prewar or postwar transition, with matching magnas, in a maroon box with tools and docs.
I'd go high 2K's and more for one in good (or any) condition. This is a rare bird as most of the 1926 .44HE's were the fixed sight Military used by law enforcement. The .44HE Target ("pre 24") came along in 1950.

or...
Model 25-9 in .45 Colt. Looking for a 6" shooter right now. Thinking $800-$900+ range. I'm not sure how rare the 25-9 is, but I like the endurance enhancements that S&W incorporated into the N-frames.

Mine is a 2 1/2" S&W model 66. I'd easily pay $450-$500 for a pristine one. I have almost always thought it to be one of the most beautiful revolvers made. :D

Tell me where the LGS is that's selling any decent pre-lock M-66 in that price range (much less a pristine 2.5"), and it'll be mine, too.

I guess my dream gun (I don't care for grail) is still the Berreta ASE-90. What I would & could pay for it differ by orders of magnitude.

Non Smith - SS 4 inch Colt Python (willing to pay - less than they now cost)

Smith - Blue 8 3/8 inch Model 17 (willing to pay - I don't know, depends on how much extra cash I have at the time)

So would just about anyone else on here. You'd have to be a fool not to, considering pristine 2 1/2" M66s are going for considerably more than that.

If we're talking Smiths, my grail is a NIB nickel 2 1/2" M19, not that I can afford it.

Just got two

Funny how things happen. Several years ago i was in the market for a Kimber. Bought one from a friend on Friday and on following Monday another friend offered me an Ultra Carry and a price I couldn't turn down. For the past two weeks, I have been looking for a S&W .44. Yesterday I found a man and his father that had two for sale, a 629 4" and a custom 29-2 3" (pic below). Price was good on both so I had to take them home. I would still like to find a 4" Python or Diamondback in the $1K range.

I don't know if I have a grail gun... There are a half dozen or so I intend to own before I'm done walking and talking...

-Early m27, 4"
-m29 no-dash, 6"
-m57 no-dash, 4" or 6.5"
-m16 with underlug (not sure what dash that is)
-m19-3 or earlier 2.5"
-m629 Classic 5"
-m629 Classic DX 6.5"
-m29 Classic 6.5"

How much I would be willing to spend depends on the situation at that time. ;)

I already have them.

I was looking for a 3 1/2 inch 27........found this

I was looking for a Model 25 this came along

I needed a gun for special grips from a friend....K 806 showed up

I am truly blessed the why I still don't know..
It has to be more than luck
if you knew me, my financial situation, or some of the circumstances behind these I think you would be astounded

There's a lot of class in this post!

a 5" 27-2. I have lots of interesting things to trade for it. Or a bunch of money.

Now that's funny right there! At the last Reno show, $450 - $500 would buy you half of a 66 2.5, especially if P&R.

Laugh if youd like, I purchased a 686-5 6" LINB for $350 less than three years ago. Anything is possible.
