What is your personal grail gun?

Phillips and Rodgers Medusa. Being sold by someone who doesn't know much about it and its value. As cool and unique as they are, I'm not paying $5000 for one.

There is always another one moved up the list each time one is found.
Sometimes one from further down the list gets in simply because it is available and within reach.
On Saturday I jumped on a Gold Cup National Match series 70 MkIV, because I may never get a better chance. Nice, clean, well cared for pistol for well below book.
But I am on the search for a Colt M08 type II.
Any condition.
Any reasonable $$, depending on condition.
It is an affliction.

Me and my dad lucked into my grail at a pawn shop one day when a good buddy said he found one for me. He walked to the back and brought back a transitional 38/44 Heavy Duty 4" barrel in amazing shape. It was wearing goodyears when we got it. I had always wanted one of these since I was a kid reading about Elmer Keith and how he loved the 38/44. I asked my buddy what they wanted for it and the price he stated made my and my dads jaw bounce off the floor!! I was busted broke at the time and said dont that figure lol. He just looked at me and said this one is coming home its too good to let go!! So we took this bad guy home for $200 out the door after taxes and everything lol!!!! Here is a couple of pictures of it now! But my next grail gun is a Model 27 5" I would give just give just about anything for one.

Got to admit, this last year has been good to me.

Found a 696 no dash, a 27-2 5", a 24-3 6", a Sig P210-1, a Ruger New Vacaro birdshead in 45 Colt, a BNIB 10-5 and an original 6 shot Ruger 480 in LNIB condition with brass and dies.

What's next...

Perhaps a Manhurin and/or a Korth, a Coonan, an LAR Grizzley.

Or perhaps I should just sit back and start saving some dough. :)

Guess I wouldn't mind a Lew Horton 624-3 3". Have a holster waiting for it.
$850 would be nice with everything with it at 99%+.

I always have a few I'm seeking:
smith 617 no-lug 4 inch..( I found the 6 inch ) whew
Winchester 9422 trapper 16 in barrel 22 cal.
ruger sp101 22 snubby
16-4 32 mag. 8 inch barrel ( have the 4 and 6 )

it's all about the search that makes it fun...

For this era...1961-1980...I love 4" 57s/657s and have five right now...but either Bill Jordan's or Elmer Keith's pair of 4" 57s would be beyond Grail.

The top spot for me - for nearly ten years - was occupied by a 4" 651. I had seen 650's at shows - always well-used and >$550. I found mine at a LGS for $579 OTD ANIB 11/11:

Here it sports it's current S&W 60 Pro grips:

It likes the MaxiMags the best. I found the NOS HKS #51 Speedloaders at Amazon!

Stainz

mine

3" M66 or M19 w/round butt.....over the years i just can't seem to put the money and the gun together at the right time....Mike

Mine was a 4" Model 19-3.
It took me a few tries, but I found one a year ago.
I would've settled for black on black sights, but I found one with RR & WO - bonus.

The best part is, all I had to do to get it was trade a Ruger SP101 for it. :D

My "current grail" is a Model 629 Carry Comp. The original one, not the last one with the interlock and angled ejector shroud.

Lets say, you walk into your local gun store. The owner pulls a box holding your personal "Grail gun". What is it, How much would you pay, and why?

A lot of the guns that people are listing are relatively easy to come by on Gunbroker or from David Carroll, if you are willing to pay the price. Some are just flat out hard to come by.

I wouldn't necessarily call it a Grail gun, but I have been looking for years for a Winchester Model 70, controlled feed Featherweight, .308 - left handed. Winchester made few LH short-action Featherweights, and the ones that I have seen have all been in the WSM calibers. I think they were available in .308 only as a custom order and hence about double the normal retail price. I have yet to see one, at all. And even though I want one, I don't want it bad enough to pay ridiculously more than a current RH one would cost. Say $800 or so.

My Smith & Wesson Grail gun? Well I don't have a Registered Magnum yet but that's due to cost, not availability. A lot of my favorite gun purchases are ones that I didn't know I wanted until I saw them - "Ooh, what's that? I'll take it!"

For me it would be a S&W 686 4" stainless & a stainless Colt Mustang pocketlite 380.
