What is your personal grail gun?

To round out my meager collection of stainless 4" no-dash magnums, I will soon be on the hunt for a nice 4" 657 no-dash.

Hmm, for S&W I'm gonna say one of those nifty 3" model 10 overruns with the underlug barrel.

Non Smith? H&K MP5-SD

I bought Model 24 4" and 624 6", both with less than desirable durability. Both cylinders rotated as well backward as forward. I modern high endurance model would be nice. I have flirted with the Thunder Ranch model but the durability is still an unknown. I finally bought two Rugers, a 50th Anniversity .357 converted to .44 Spl and a 7.5" Bisley model after Ruger finally decided the idea was here to stay. A 1950 Target Model sounds nice. Wonder why Keith never reported any problems?

S&W 1917 .45 ACP

S&W 1917 .45 ACP since seeing Indiana Jones wield one in Raiders of the Lost Ark. There is something magical about this revolver for me. I've held them at gun shows but could not afford the $800+ for original items.

I understand S&W make them again, but I want a clean, honestly-used war-issued specimen. The Colt version is not as nice to me. I inspected them side by side at the gun show.

My "personal grail gun" would be one of the original 15,000 Colt manufactured Thompson Sub-machine guns. A 1921A to be exact.

Won't happen unless I were to hit to lottery, though!

.....and yes. I would be willing to jump through all the legal hoops & red tape in order to legally own one.

I bought one at a gunshow for the same reason!! I'm pretty sure it's been reblued but I didn't care. There are some nasty pits in the bore too, amazingly it shoots well at 25 yards with ball ammo. I want to get an old Hi-Power for the same reason.

Lets say, you walk into your local gun store. The owner pulls a box holding your personal "Grail gun". What is it, How much would you pay, and why?

If you already have it, please post some pictures.

Mine is a 2 1/2" S&W model 66. I'd easily pay $450-$500 for a pristine one. I have almost always thought it to be one of the most beautiful revolvers made. :D

MINE IS A 4" NO-DASH 617, WITH ORIGINAL GRIPS, BOX & PAPERS. I WOULD PROBABLY PAY THE ASKING PRICE TO GET IT, WHATEVER THAT MIGHT BE……….

What is your personal grail gun?

Interesting question, because I just bought another box of .32 S&W long ammo today that I'll probably never use. All I have chambered for that is an early '80's H&R revolver. So why do I keep buying that ammo when I see it?

I think many of you know the answer to that: Because then I'll have a good excuse to buy that early series model 16 or K32 Masterpiece that shows up for an affordable price. ( :) Yeah, that'll happen.) If that isn't in the cards, then I'll have a reason to buy a nice old model 30.

Jim NNN, YOU GOT THE DISEASE BAD ! ! !

1. a 5" 610 with fluted cylinder. I had 2 610s, both 6.5" models with unfluted cylinders and sold them both, way too cheap, when I got hard up. The only 610s I've seen in the last couple years have had the unfluted cylinders and went for 3 times what I sold mine for.

2. a 6" barreled "Smolt". I guess this was a desirable modification back in the day, but take a K frame action a screw a Python barrel into it. The man who owned the range I grew up shooting at had 2 of them, a 4" and a 6" both Model 19's with Python barrels and while they had been well shot and used as working guns, they were his prized possessions. After his death, numerous people offered his son ridiculous money for them, but the son kept them as a sentiment, which we all understood. If I ever saw another, Id do all that I could to make a deal with the seller.

9mm Mauser C96.

Not sure what my grail Smith revolver would be... Maybe a 570, or a 1955, or an RM. I wouldn't pay what I'd have to to acquire one, though, unless I hit the lottery. Well, a 1955 wouldn't be out of the question.

SO MANY GUNS, SO LITTLE TIME.

For a couple of weeks it was a simple model 10 for bowling pin/steel challenge, then the combat masterpieces started looking good. Yesterday at the swap meet, after bowling pin a NIB commerative wood box with matching serial # knife mdl 19 for 800$ looked good, but spending 800$ on myself on Valentines day wasn't worth getting stabbed over. I did score 700 22 LR's federal Hi powers @ 7 cents per and sold a 637 air wt for 325$ & a silver handled antique magnifying glass which always come in handy.
