What S&W Revolver do you regret letting go of the most?

I regret getting rid off my father's Model 14-2 6 inch duty weapon and my Model 19 6 inch duty weapon. They were both good, reliable carry weapons that never let me down.

After reading the first six pages of these sad tales, I note one that nobody admits to selling... I got one of the first 16-4s to come to town (6") but then decided I needed to concentrate on rifles so sold it after about 200 rounds for the price I paid new. DUMB!! :(

I also had a flat latch Chief's Spl that had been through most of the Hanover, VA PD before I got it sans most of its blue. I had a friend simply swipe over it quickly and give it a reblue which looked almost factory to my unschooled eye, but my unschooled brain let me sell it too! :o

"Ve grow too soon oldt und too late schmardt!"

I had a first year production 63 and a 28 that I traded for a 29. Wish I had kept both of them especially the 63. Took me about 10 years but I eventually replaced the 63, wasn't a first year though.

Model-28 4-inch I purchased new in 1974. I took all those revolvers for granted back then. :(

I wish I had my favorite duty guns back as well. A well used 6" Highway Patrolman I bought for $80.00, and a first year model 67 with stainless sights that I had Bill Davis do an action job on and put a yellow ramp in it. I think I paid for 150 bucks or so brand new for it. Both of them took very good care of me when I needed them. I hope someone's taking good care of them today.....

I had a slew of other ones that would be worth 5 or 6 times or more what I sold them for in those days, but that's just money. ....

I saw a 45 ACP Mountain gun I should have bought...

And Now that I live in the country, and have varmints that need to be shot, I kinda wish I still had my 6" 22 Jet...

However I probably do not need it as I Still cannot carry ANY revolver under 44 Mag...

You can do ANYTHING any other calibre revolver can do, from 22LR and UP, with the right load, in a 44 Mag...

And when you add in Speer Shotshells...

I don't regret any sales or trades. Some were lemons, some I didn't like as much as I thought I would, some I had no more use for, and in some case I needed the money more than I did the gun. No sense second guessing myself now.

I did trade off a single action Model 14 for next to nothing because I thought it was broken. Live and learn..........

This one. It is a long story as to why I sold it but suffice it to say I wish I never had...sniff.

I sold a my 649 an d 2" 66 that I bought new back in the mid 80's, I really regret selling the 66!

While I realize ths is the S+W forum, my biggest regret was letting go of my very first revolver. 357 Mag Colt Python, royal blue with a 4 inch barrel. I
traded it for a S+W 586 and $100. I guess even then I knew I was a Smith +Wesson guy.

I regret parting with my 696. I believed some negative press in a gun rag and traded it in on a Kimber Custom .45 ACP which I sold years later to a friend. I also regret passing up on all the S&W's sitting in my local pawn shops right now, but I don't have the cash. :(

I purchased a 6" model 48 around 1976 or 77 and let it go about 10 years later on a trade. I have wanted one ever since the day I let that one go. I wish they would come out with the 648 again.

A pre-war 38/44 HD in nickle, 5 inch. I offered it for sale in the classifieds for $700. No one made an offer, wound up selling it on GB for $450. Thought it would go for alot more.
I should have just kept it, how many pre-war nickle HD's are there?

That's funny Tom. I did the opposite, traded a 586 to a friend about 15 years ago for a Python in Electroless Nickle. Has box and papers, still like new. He no longer has the 586, I still have the Python.

At times, I think of seller/trading this or that, but this thread is so depressing, (and eye-opening!) I think I'll just save up some $$ and keep looking!

Mike,
That is funny. Oh, no big surprise. I dont have he 586 anymore. I remember selling it for $250 to a guy at work, then bought a 686 from a friend for the same $250. I still have the 686.
Tom
P.S. Great looking Python!
