What S&W Revolver do you regret letting go of the most?

The one I didnt get. About 40 years ago I wanted a triplelock in .44 special. A old gun collector friend tried to sell me what looked to be a 100% unfired 45 colt with old heavy hardend grease on it. Nope, wanted that .44 special that elmer wrote about. That was before I read that only about 15 triplelocks were built in .45 colt! Another time about in 1960 I had a chance to buy a NIB 3rd model nickle 4".
I sold two smiths that I regret. One was a unfired 1917 still in the grease or cosmoline, (Had a identical new 1917 colt also unfired) and sold the pair. I also once bought a NIB model 14 that was NICKLE! It was stamped 14 over 15. I sold it.

I had a 629 Classic 6.5" that a guy offered me well over what I paid for it nib 5 years prior.

I sold it....having no idea that when I'd be in the market for another one that S&W would cave in and put the infernal locks on them.

I found a 6+1/2" Model 28, no dash, in a pawn shop. It was in great shape, with a nice patina on it, had an action job with a target trigger and hammer (case colored). I got it cheap, and a guy I worked with basically wore me down over a year or so, and I sold it to him for a nice profit. I regretted it as soon as I did it. I haven't really missed all that many guns, but I really miss that one.

Only got rid of two S&W revolvers in my life. About 10 years ago I traded a 2 1/2 in. Model 66 away to get back a Browning Hi-Power I had traded away. Still not sure that was the right move but then again trading the Hi-Power was dumb in the first place. About 3 years ago I traded a 5906 even up for a 4in. Model 66(Mim, Lock etc.) and I traded back for the 5906 this spring. Just couldn't warm up to that 66 and it had the worst trigger pull I have ever felt on a stock Smith. The owner of the 66 wants to trade back again but thats not happenin'.

Several regrets over the years. One always comes to my mind though: It was a beautiful 6" nickle 29-2, that I got from a friend of the family, who passed away about a year after he sold it to me. I still have the 4" nickle 57 that I got with the 29. I'll probably always miss that 29-2 the most.

The two I sold. A 29-2 6" blue I bought in '78 and sold to pay bills, and an old 28 4" I traded off for a Colt. Loved the Colt, but it's gone too. Funny, I don't miss that one! Not a fan of horses, I suppose.......

I have only been into guns for about 18 months now and couldn't imagine selling any of the ones I have been able to get so far.

Actually, I have two. The first was my 5 inch Model 27 that was like new and then my recessed and pinned Model 66.

LNIB '66 vintage 28-2 4 inch, 4 inch 19 and a pair of 3 inch 24 lew hortons. and stainless 3 inch 29. also had a 4 inch 57 i now wish i had back.

at least i made money on all of tham, but id rather have the guns back than the cash i blew on somthing fleeting

On my daughters' 32nd birthday she caught me in a weak moment and I gave her my 29-2 (8 3/8") in the wood case and 500 rounds.

Nah, I guess I really don't regret it after all. The revolver is in good hands and I can still shoot it, now and then.

Sold a pair of 3" and a 4" 625. That's the tip of the iceberg..........Zebulon

I can't do it. It's too painful......too many nice ones sold or traded to pick one out.

All of them! Not really kidding, but the one I miss the most is my 4" 686. I ordered it before S&W were actually selling them. Best, most accurate handgun I have ever shot. And comparing to my first handgun, a Model 14 bought NIB in 1972, that says something!

Oh, first post here and happy to be a member!

I lament the sales of two, a 4" Model 25 in .45 Colt - the best gun I ever owned, and a 2" Model 49 Bodyguard - first quality gun I ever owned and the one I used to scare off a bad guy trying to come in my window at 3:00 in the morning.
