Hello All,

I just purchased my first AR (.556) and I gotta say it's a Blast! Took it out this past weekend and the iron sights only took about 4-6 shots out of the box to get it dead on at 50yrds. I wanna put a scope on it but not sure which way to go. I think I will be shooting between 25-100 yards. Not sure if I want a straight power or a vari-power? I have the MP 15-22 with a Red-Dot and not use to not having the power to zoom in. Any suggestions?

First, Welcome to the forum. Second, what do you plan on using your rifle for? This question gets ask a lot, and knowing your intended use will make for better answers.

Good Luck and good shooting. :D

I use mine primarily for taking down paper terrorists at the range. Some days I pretend to be a trained sniper, one shot one kill. When I'm feeling particularly randy, I'll watch Magpul Art of the Tactical Carbine 1 & 2 and try to be beard-operator snappy efficient movement head on a swivel chest and leg rig wearing awesome. I'll pop in a GI Joe cartoon Betamax tape, get revved up, go to the range, put a target a couple yards out, and dump a mag while yelling out "Yo Joe!". During mag changes I'll look at the shooter in the lane next to me in the eye, and in a serious tone of voice say "Knowing is half the battle."

;)

I'm going to try and mount my Redfield Revenge on mine. Not sure if it's going to work since it's the 50mm objective version. Think I'm going to need some double extra high mounts.

I have my M4 set up for what I would use it for--shots at 100yds or less. Mine wears an Eotech 552 with a Magpul BUIS. For a paper-punching, defense-oriented rifle, I don't really see how magnification is largely needed.

If I ever did want just a bit of magnification, I think a Burris Tac30 would quickly find it's way onto that top rail. I've really, really liked what I've seen from that scope. Installed one on my buddy's AR after we built it and was very impressed.

If you're punching paper, defending the house, or having a recreational good time, I'd recommend a good red dot or holographic sight. They allow for two eyes open and up close, fast action, rounds on target shooting. Now it's up to you and your wallet.

Good Luck and good shooting. :D

On my first DPMS I had a fixed 4X and had trouble holding anything around 100 yds. My eyes are not as good as they used to be. When I got my MP15 OR, I put on a 3X9 IR and basically left it on 9X. Wanting something different I bought a Lucid XD red dot and am having more fun with it than either scope. Still makes the 100 yds shots a challenge but for just punching holes in paper the Lucid does fine.

It is all going to depend on what you final or main use will be.

I run a 4-14x44 scope from Primary Arms on mine and it's performed flawlessly. Can't beat the price or the company.

Here's a crappy photo if it. It was on my 15T, but I decided to run it on the Sport.
