What was your first new-bought S&W revolver?

4” 686 circa 1984. Carried it until we went to Glocks in 1991.
Unfortunately this the only picture I have of it. :D
Also evidence I dumped the combats for pachmayrs. :D

My first new S&W was a 6” model 28-2. I bought it at Southwest Shooters Supply in Oklahoma City back in the early 70s. Still have it.

I bought a 4" blue Model 19-3 from Meltzer's Sporting goods on Outwater Lane in Garfield NJ in 1977. Paid cash $193, and the "old man" goes to the register, gets my change singing "One, two, six, ten; Meltzer takes your money again." Traded it away 4 years later. Joe

642 Airweight in summer 2015, my cousin liked it so I gave it to him- replaced it with a 442 Performance Center in early 2018. Those are the only two S&Ws I’ve ever bought NIB.

All of my Smith Revolvers have been "New to Me". To this day, never had a brand new 1! Doesn't bother me! Have not bought a new car in around 20 years. Bob

Model 57

My first new S&W revolver purchase was made right after I graduated from college and got my first job- 1978. It was a beautiful 4" blued Model 57 in the mahogany presentation case. I used to carry it around in a Bianchi shoulder holster, a la Harry Callahan (Model 29s were still hard to find in the late '70s). Actually, I really liked the .41 Magnum...it was a little less snappy than a .357, and a little milder than the .44 Magnum. The ammo was expensive, however, so that led to my first experiences with reloading. Unfortunately, my Model 57 was stolen when my apartment was burglarized later that year. I still have the presentation case- which is now earmarked for my 4" blued Model 29-2.

My first S&W purchased new, was a model 63 I bought for $260 in 1981. Got it home and noticed that the ejector rod did not correctly engage the barrel lug...took it back to the store, thinking it would have to go back to the factory under warranty....the clerk switched it our for another new one and changed the sn on the paperwork. Still have it and it is the first revolver with which I teach young ones to shoot.

Like many here, my first "New" S&W was not my first hand gun. Also, it was a very utilitarian purchase. In 1982, to celebrate our recent marriage, my wife suggested a new firearm. A 6" Model 28 soon came home to stay. It has served me well over the years, and still has one of the sweetest triggers I've ever fired.

My first brand new in the box S&W revolver was a six inch 28-2 that I bought for $178 OTD at Arvins Pawn and Jewelry Shop in Macon, Ga. If memory serves me, it was bought in 1980. I later bought a Bianchi 10L holster for it. I loved that revolver. Wish I'd not let it get away. Oh well. Hindsight. Sincerely. bruce.

14-3

14-3, 6-inch barrel, with target hammer and trigger, and magna stocks. Bought from a small gun store in Dallas 10/2/1970.

Price was $107.50 (plus tax), which was the MSRP at that time. I later upgraded to target stocks ($15.00).

Factory wadcutter ammunition was outragious at $4.00/box, so I bought a Lee Loader ($9.95) and started reloading my own for about $2.00/box.

I still have the gun, original grips/box/papers/tools, and the Lee Loader.

I was just over 17 years old, the 1968 Gun Control Act had recently (2 years) been implemented. My mother signed for me to buy a “new” S&W 4” Model 28. That was my first S&W handgun, and my first centerfire. I had already had 2 .22 rim fires....a Browning Nomad and a Ruger Single-Six! memtb

The first new S&W I ever bought was a 640 no dash in the early nineties. I still have it, and it often finds it's way into my carry rotation. It's funny but while I have many S&W's both revolver and semi auto, it is my only J-frame; and, I tend to carry it and my .40 S&W shield the most.

My first new S&W revolver was a model 17-? that I bought inn my early 30s. The tool pusher on a drilling rig I was on wanted it soooo bad and kept offering me more and money till I sold.Next days off I went looking foe another and all I could find was a model 18-4. Couldn't find a 6" and "settled" for the 4". Boy am I glad I did. That gun has been round butted, had thousands of rounds through it. Got holster worn and freckled form a time it got forgotten in a box of rig clothes. I have 4 other K frame 22s, a model 34, a Ruger Bearcat, get Semis and that little 18-4 still gets the most hip and truck time of the lot.

The first gun that I purchased myself was a S&W 10-5. I still have it today and just as starry eyed today as I was in 1970. Although not this one, I carried a 10-5 as a condition of employment for m any years. I had many partners in my career but the
10-5 never let me down. None were more faithful.

My first bought was my NIB M-640-1 .357 Magnum shipped in April 1995 in 2008.
It now wears a nice set of Combat grips.
It was my EDC up until 2014 when I replaced it with a M-642-1.

edit: ship date

My first Smith and Wesson, bought brand new at Tamiami Gun Shop in Miami in 1968, but not by me. It was a 16th birthday gift from my best friend’s father, a mentor who greatly influenced my life-long interest in firearms. My friend and I still shoot it regularly.

Boy, that was sure a good $15 spent. Those grips look fantastic. If you ever want to double your money on them, let me know.:)
