What & When your 1st. S&W

1971. model 15-3 4 inch. Gift from my wife on our first anniversarywhen I was 24. Both are long gone; one sadly, the other not so sadly.

My first one was a 4" K 22. The guy who gave it to me was a drill pusher that my dad bought rock bits off of for years. He liked me more than his grand kids. When I got it the right ear of the rear sight had a dent from being dropped and the side plate had slight pitting on a spot. The former owners initials were scratched in the butt of the grips.

Being a dumbass 7th grader I spun the cylinder repeatedly and it now has a ring. I was given the revolver in 1971 and it dates from 1954. It can still shoot better than I can.

Back in 1972 I was discharged from the Air Force and went into law enforcement. I was issued a Model 10, but my first purchase was a Model 36. Several months later I turned in the Model 10 and bought a Model 19. I was twenty-two at the time.

I bought a 4" 686-4 right after the infamous "crime bill" was passed in 1994. I figured that if I ever wanted a handgun, I'd better do it pronto. I've since added a a few more Smiths to the fold and enjoyed each one.

In 1996 I inherited my late father-in-laws 34-1. At the time, I didn't appreciate how fine this little .22 is. I now own a nice pre-17 and pre- 18 but the 34 is the one I shoot best.

1983 model 28 four inch barrel. Traded it back in towards a used 27-1 6 inch barrel. Watched that model 28 sit in his display case until 1999 when he retired and closed shop.

Was a victim of the "Dirty Harry" franchise. Bought a Model 29 in 1978, was 29 at the time. Still have the 44mag, it looks as good as it did when I brought it home. Me on the other hand,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Its funny , I've been shooting for 45 yrs but never bought a S&W until this year (14) a 629-6 in feb. a 13-3 in june and a 66 in dec. still shooting at 64 but getting harder to do here in the land of the fruits and nuts.

Technically my first S&W was an issued Model 64, 4". Lost that when we transitioned to the Glock.

My first S&W purchase was a Model 66-2 2 1/2". Still have that one.

Soon after turning 21 I purchased a couple N frames through the PX. The prices were really good and the guns were really nice. It was the late 90's and people were upset about foreign ownership and the then relatively new frame mounted firing pin. I didn't care. Just like today, they're still the best available.

The guns were a 629PP and a 625 Classic. They served me well but were replaced with a pre 27 and 22-4 recently.

The 629 was likely the most accurate handgun I ever had and the 625 made me look good as tight rapid fire groups came easy.

A Model 686-3 6" Barrel SS; nothing extra special. It was purchased 1 year to the day 02/18/1993 (not planned) before we were married I was 32 then. It is beyond tough , feels great , and has hundreds of thousands of miles on dirt bikes , pickups , our former airplane , and pick ups. The thing has protected our home day and night 24/7/365 since the day it came to our family. Displayed twice , never aimed or fired at another; we did things my way.

It is dead on , coveted and will be the last one they pry out of my cold dead hands...
I/we are S&W .357/.38 Spl. fans. This S&W revolver is completely reliable with perhaps 1,000 rounds. Hoping to change that number soon with the cool new indoor range coming soon close to home.

My first S&W was a model 10. I had to leave my home in louisiana to go to NYC for a workmen's comp hearing. I had a copy of a good friends FFl so if I found one he'd be able to ship it back home with no wait for me to send him one. Guy at the store had a big cardboard box of model 10's. Started taking them out and checking them out. Soon I have one of the gun counters covered with model 10's.I personnaly knew the owner so that wasn't a problem. Round about #30 or so I found a really nice one and that is the one who made the voyage from NY to LA. Cost was $100 why?, no one wanted a six shot old revolver when the wondernines had been out for some years. Still have it some 18 years later and occasionally shoot it. Frank

A 4" bbl 28-2 in 1974, a few days after my 21st birthday which is the legal age in CA to be able to own a handgun. I went sporting goods store called Oshmans located in Shopping Mall (imagine being able to do that in CA this day and age). They had 2 .357 Magnum revolvers in my price range, the 4" M28-2 for $135.00 and Nickeled Colt New Frontier for $165.00.

I chose the M28-2 because I wasn't the least bit interested in a "Cowboy Gun"... given what those go for now, I sometimes get a pang of remorse.

But on the other hand not too long after that, the M28-2 went on to serve me well as my duty gun, when I became a LEO for a brief while, in what now feels like being way back during the stone age. :D

I started shooting 4 years ago and my first S&W was a 586-3, 6" bought it 2 years ago when i was 46...several S&W`s has arrived since then, a mod 60 LS, a 629 4" mountain gun, a mod 29-2, 6,5", a 686-6, 2,5" and the latest..a mod 19-3, 6"

Mine was a little 34 2" around 1980 NIB. To carry fly fishing in NH. Still have it like new in the box. I've been mostly into automatics, but I just bought a 637-2" 2 weeks ago. And love it. I have ordered a phl City Special iwb kydex holster for it and just got a desantis superfly for it. I have those same holsters for other guns and really like them.

I came home from the police academy and told her about shooting a Mod at the range and how much I liked it. Not long after getting out of the Academy she gave me a New Mod 19 she had a friend of mine help her pick it out to surprise me. I still have that gun and shoot it often.

My first S&W was a Model 15 4" that my father gave me when I was 21. At some point shortly thereafter, I traded it back to him for my 2nd S&W, a Model 60 (no dash), which I still have and occasionally carry. I was a little disappointed to discover after he died that he no longer had the 15.

The first S&W I bought was this 2" Model 64-2

It was barley used and I bought it to give to my wife for her 22nd Birthday in 1984 (I was 21). I gave it to her, along with a strand of pearls.

She still has the M64, the pearl neckless, and me :)
