Whataburger chain prohibits open carry in their joints in Texas.

I remember 20 plus years ago when Texas approved CCW. A lot of the local restaurants posted "No Concealed Handguns Allowed" signs. These did not stay up very long. A lot of the legal boys advised the owners of said establishments that they best provide a safe place for a man to bring his family to eat. If not there was some responsibility , of the establishment, to be liable if an "event" should occur. Order of thinking was "we are asking the public to come in and patronize our business but yet asking him to leave his right to self protection outside the front door."

The signs began to tumble. Very few left today. They could not arrest you for "carrying", but if they asked you to leave, and you did not, you could be arrested for trespass.

We shall see what the "open carry, or round two" shall bring.

Wonder if the WaB ban affects cops? After all, armed cops make some people nervous too.

Incidentally, for those who are not from Texas and a few neighboring states, Whataburger is a very popular hamburger/fast food chain, similar to McDonalds, Burger King, etc., but much better.

I respect their right to ask patrons to not open carry in their stores and while I don't think we have that chain here I would respect their wishes although I don't open carry although it I is legal here.
On the other hand I might also go to other stores even when carrying concealed as I'd feel maybe they didn't really want my business after all.
I've only seen open carry here a few times and it never caused a disturbance that I witnessed and as a matter of fact I witnessed the fact that nobody even seemed to notice even in very public places.

in Ruston, La the WB had painted on the window "In God We Trust" and I liked it...

I don't open carry and I like their fish sammiches

A cop without a gun is a cop without a gun. No restaurants here in Corpus have anything against law enforcement carrying in their establishments.Thats like detoothing a dog and expecting that same dog--to do what comes natural.

I see them carry all the time here, and in every business I go into.Be it:Circle K/Stripes, WalMart,Booger King, McDs, whatever.

More often than not this is what I see with open carry

Something to that effect. If he had walked into the restaurant I would leave.

This is the best way to carry when you believe the person standing behind you is a better shot than you are...they can draw your gun cleanly and quickly, and maybe even use your shoulder for a shootin' rest.

I'm not a regular customer but g-son is. We stopped by a fairly new WB location in Tulsa yesterday. No signs posted regarding CC/OC and Okla. has had OC for going on 2 years.

We have them around here, too. They're nothing special, just another junk food/fast food "restaurant". Or I guess they're still around...there are so many of these cheap places, it's hard to tell one from another.

Boys, I wonder if next January 1,2016 when open carry goes into effect if a gent was to walk to the door of Whataburger with a nice galco on a nice belt, carrying say a 2 1/2 " model 19 and politely "knock" on the door to get the managers attention. Then gent removes model 19 from galco and places it in his pocket of his pants and proceeds into the establishment. Since they are going to allow cc would one be correct in assuming this would be plausible? I just love this forum. I know there will be "unique" answers forthcoming. Well, its not beyond the realm of possibility.

Wouldn't knock or get anyone's attention. Don't need to prove anything to anyone. I would just have the gun iwb and go about my life

Just trying to point out how absurd the whole thing is. Remember, "nibbled to death by a duck."

I understood what you ment but still I wouldn't be trying to explain this to the manager/owner. They have their reasons and I have mine. By me carrying iwb we both get what we want

Mr. Atkinson, Whataburger President, says in his letter addressing the issue that "we are a gathering spot for little league teams, church groups, and high school students." This mere comment alludes to me that firearms are inherently something that these groups should be fearful of? Or what? I don't understand this type of rationale.
