What's the one gun that has always been in the back of your mind...

I'm a long tube fan boy and always on the lookout for a 8 3/8 inch Model 17 or 617. I've passed on a few when the seller's asking price and my available funds just didn't quite jive. As long as I keep an eye out, I'm confident that some day the Universe will align between a seller and my bank account and it will happen.

Since they were introduced, I've had a hankering for a Chiappa Rhino. I know they are ugly but for some reason they ring my bell. One of my friends has one and we took it apart. Be warned, the pins are not attached to the back of the frame like a S&W. When you lift the side plate you can pull the pins up along with it and every thing goes flying. :):):):):)

We were surprised at how well all the parts were finished. We didn't see any areas needing a gunsmith's stones. Fine shooter.

I've been wanting a Steyr GB since 87. I was 11 then, but I still want one. Just not enough to dish out the dough.

Additionally, I've wanted a Python since I realized that's what Hawk, from Spencer for Hire was carrying. They are too high compared to Smith's to warrant the purchase now.

C96 Mauser.
Colt Python. Royal Blue. 6" barrel.
Medusa.
Volcanic.
Allen and Thurber Pepperbox.
Chamelot Delvigne 1873 French Ordnance Revolver.
Winchester 1890.
Original Hawken Brothers rifle.
Plus, a few more.

I have three that come to mind rather fast...………

1920's era S&W Commercial Model 1917 .45acp revolver

Post WWII era S&W Commercial Model 1917 .45acp revolver

1920's era Colt Commercial/Civilian Model 1917 .45acp revolver

Not asking for too much here, just correct and in VG-Exc condition.......at a little-old-lady garage sale price.

A Holland&Holland side by side rifle in .577 Nitro Express. Way out of my price range and I have absolutely no use for this but I would love one as a 'holding gun.'

Ever since I saw a Winchester 1886 in .45-90 hanging in a local gun shop in the 1960s, I've wanted one. Probably settle today for one of the replicas as the originals are too expensive for my beer budget.

In the back of my mind....

2 of them;

Model 547 3" round butt & Model 19-3 up to a -6. Those are dream guns for me. :)

From when I wore a younger man's clothes, a Remington Model 600 Magnum in 350 Remington Magnum and maybe it's sister in 6.5 Remington Magnum. I purchased a 600 Mohawk and used it for hunting for years and a couple of years ago, purchased a 600 in 35 Remington but they are not quite a magnum with the laminated stock. Also a Winchester Model 92 in 44-40 with the 12 or 14" barrel.

In the handgun realm:
A relatively recent lust would be one of the very few .41 Magnum 10 5/8" barreled AFS Model 57s that I first read about in an early edition of the SCSW. And taunted with further on this forum!

Way before that: The old semi-automatic Webley-Fosbery .455 revolver.
And for something rather more converntional: a set of .455 Autos, one a Webley Mk.1 and the other a Colt Government Model. (Some .455 auto pistol ammo would be nice, too.)

A nice Merkel, Griefelt or equally nice 16 gauge over and under haunts me at the end of every pheasant or quail hunt.
I have several 20 O/U's and a 12, but a 16 would sure be nice

I'll go along with the Merkel O/U, not necessarily 16 though.

Beretta ASE 90.

But, as they say, it's not what you've got, but how you use it. I made lots of great memories hunting quail with my Britany and SKB 500 (basically a copy of the Merkel O/U.)

Given the choice, I'll take a good dog & good bird country and hunt with my old SKB.

A bit of thread drift, but I liked my 28ga SKB O/U until I got a 28ga Winchester 101 Quail Special. That's the best shotgun I've ever owned, or shot, for that matter! Of course, it's all in how they fit you, etc., and that SKB was nicely made.

Back onto the "wish list" theme, this time shotgun: A Remington 1100 LT20 with a 26" IC barrel (or screw in chokes). My very first shotgun was the same but with a 28" modified choke barrel. Thing shot more like a rifle. Miss (a lot!) or "hamburger" the critter.

I had one of those I bought for my ex but sold later. Originally a 28" mod, I added a 26" skeet.

The late Dick Eades was a huge fan of SKB O/Us. The 28 gauge was his favorite, and he had a collection that might have filled two Cabelas gun libraries..
