What's you favorite S&W revolver Model and Why?

It's very hard to have only one, but I guess i'd pick my 66 no dash. It was my 1st S&W. Over time I've grown more fond of this revolver, than when I first bought it years back. It was also bought from a good friend.

I will through in with the 27-2 5 inch crowd simply because for many years it was my only handgun of any kind and we have seen a lot of country together. My 66 3 inch is close second.

I have 2 favorites...The Chief Special in .38 special aka pre / model 36..or the model 10 just because they are so simple, utilitarian, no frills, all business, over 100/60 years of police & military history...When I go to the range, one of them almost always comes along.. just because. I usually carry some variant of the model 10 or 36 as a BUG

I love my .44s. ( No wife, and they don't want to change the channel.)

But if I have to pick a favorite it's got the the .38 M&P revolvers. Pre model 10s, model 10s, and 13s. I shoot these the most and I can still afford to buy one now and then.

I am partial to all the S&Ws prior to the IL. My favorite should be the old 1963 K22 that I grew up with. But the one revolver I can't help but admire is my 640-1.

This little .357 is so cool with the heavy underlug barrel, pinned front site and the heft of a hammerless frame. Compared to the size of the original magnums, it's hard to believe this little gun can field a .357 round!

It's just so ... practical.

Compare to most of you I only have a few revolvers ..
Model 60 2"
Model 66 2 1/2"
Model 19 4"
Model 28 3" and round butt.
My overall favorite to carry and shoot is the Model 28. 3" barrel .357 N frame.... Just plain great gun to shoot and carry... always gets attention when shooting. can't tell you what the exact comment I get most often is .. but it always starts with " Holy" and then .....

I can't rule out any S&W revolver, it would be fairer for me to say that S&W makes my favorite revolver and leave it at that.

However, I've sort of thought long about what my favorite is, and I looked at it like this; what if I could have only one? I'm actually practically in that predicament; I live in Germany and can only own two handguns as a hunter...period. You can guess who makes the two that I own.

I own several weapons in the US, of course, but can have only two here in sunny Deutschland. Last year, I found my "grail" revolver (I actually hate that term), a 547. I have always liked the K-Frame 4" HB Model 10 and it's spinoffs like 13s, as well as SS 64s, 65s and so on. I also have a 619, a kind of L-frame version of 4" HB M10 series. But my hands down favorite of all time, for several reasons, is the 547, and here's why:

1. Caliber/cartridge. You can hate or dispute the 9x19 all you want, it's a great compromise of size, power, weight and availability. With the 547, you can digest the infamous 147 gr. bullets, with no feeding issues (hey, it's a revolver). More punch than a .38, less kick than a .357. Plus, here in Europe, 9x19 is simply everywhere, made by everyone and cheap. Actually, 9x19 enjoys that advantage all over the world. And in +P, it's pretty potent, if you feel you need all that. Say all you want to about 9x19, I don't really care. It's all about shot placement anyway.
2. It still has that Model 10 appeal, balance and look, which is a great match to my shooting skills and preference. It's an easy transition from auto's, which I have had much more experience shooting up until a few years ago.
3. It carries well, better than my issue M9 ever hoped to, as well as my current P228.
4. It's unique, in that you don't need moon's, but can still use speedloaders (if you can find them). The extraction system is really interesting, but it's no niche gun, it's a serious shooter. It's insanely accurate, and instills confidence in my shooting abilities, in any condition.
5. In Germany, one can only ever carry a handgun when hunting. Autos and tactical stuff are really looked down on by the old timers I hunt with, so this 547 is actually well received by those old guys. They flip when they find out it's a 9x19.
6. It's a revolver in an auto cartridge, which for me, makes it twice as useful, best of both worlds if you will. I think S&W outdid themselves when they made the 547, just too bad they won't bring it back (like a stainless version?). And no, it's not the most expensive S&W and all that other mythology, the cylinder is actually amazingly simple.

So, that's just MY favorite, and why and I'm definately not saying it's better than anyone else's, just for the record.

Being a fan of smaller firearms, I would go with the Chief Special in general and the Model 60 in particular. I like the classic 60-ND 1 7/8" and the various 3" versions, including the current Pro Series.

OK, I'm an odd ball but my favorite is the 610, 6 1/2".
Why, because I shoot it better than any other revolver/pistol I own or have owned. If I'm to have any chance in a pin match, I must shoot the 610-3. Something about the size, weight, balance that just makes it the best for me to shoot fast and accurate.

My favorite......is my late father's Pre M-15 It's been in the family almost as long as I've been in it, and he bought it new.......It shoots as good or better than anything else I have, barring any brand or caliber, and I have lots of handguns......Only the grave will make me give up that gun

I also like all K and J frames in 38 Spl. For stronger calibers, I go up in frame size.

Honestly. I put S&W in the same catagory as music, movies, food, or maybe cars. How do you pick out just one? I have only my M60 and M28. I like these very much, but there are many many Revolvers that I could add to my collection, if not only for the money.
Deep Blue, Stainless and Nickel. 2", 3", 4", 5", 6" and 8" barrels and the other sizes too.
Models that come to mind quickly. 29, 27, 57, 37, 15, 18, 66, 19....How can you just pick a couple?

Right now I would have to say my blued 25-5 in 4" with 3 T's. Just a beautiful gun ( as are most S&W's ). It shoots above my level of accuracy & did I mention it's beautiful.

N-Frames have become my favorite flavor of late, but I have been known to be a bit fickle when it comes to blued S&W's.

I say with more remorse than pride that I am kind of promiscuous in my affections -- my favorite S&W is either the one I just put down or the one I am about to pick up. For the last year I have been a big fan of either a 2 5/8" 627 PC (the "Blood Work" model) or a 3" 625-3 -- big hitters on big frames with a short tube. I also like snubnose K-frames, though I gravitate to the rarer versions that need to stay mostly under lock and key rather than moving through the shooting rotation on a regular basis. Eventually I will add a 2" Model 15 to the hoard, maybe a 15-3, and that will very possibly become my very favorite.

I also have some big affections for prewar S&Ws, including Triple Locks and .38/44s (both OD and HD models). I still think the postwar transitional .38/44 OD may be best target .38 of all time -- ribbed barrel, large postwar micro-click sight, long prewar action.

I see my prewar .22/32 Kit Gun addiction slipping away in the rear view mirror, which is good because it was breaking the bank. But I still think the prewar I-frame with adjustable sights and a four-inch barrel in any caliber (but mostly .22 because that's what the company made most of) is one of the best proportioned S&W revolvers ever made.

Some photos: I bet you will all be able to tell which is which. :D

Don't get me started on target revolvers of any era in .32 Long.

No doubt about it, the Model 18! :D
Cheap ammo, wonderfully accurate and the perfect practice piece for its larger caliber brothers. I credit this gun for teaching me how to properly shoot a DA revolver.
