What's you favorite S&W revolver Model and Why?

To me it has to be the Model 27 because I think it's well made and is the best looking S&W revolver ever made. My second favorite would be the K22/Model 17 series because they are such a joy to shoot and they provide hours of entertainment for a small price in ammo costs. But if I could keep only one it would be a Model 27-2 in 5 inch barrel.

I know everyone has a favorite so tell us what it is and why it's your favorite.

My favorite is my 66-1 MSHP, because it was my first Smith and 100% complete and led to many more. I understand the 27's but only have the long tubes right now.

For carry my 2 1/2" M66-1.
For a BUG my M340PD.
I'm wearing them both right now.
For sentimentality, my late Fathers 4 screw K-22. Or his Dad's M60.

But I guess the one I bought, that I like the best, is my 5" Heavy Duty. Made in 1952, it's still going strong. I even used it a few years ago to re-qualify for my carry permit.
I'd hate to part with ANY of mine, but these are the best.

That is very hard to narrow down to just one favorite. I guess it would be my 3.5" 27-2. It's a pleasure to simply hold and study it. Even better to shoot it.

I like many models but it is hard not to love the 27/327/627 family
of revolver. I wish I had them all photographed. Please do not ask
me to choose a favorite variation of this model family.

Whats not to love. There is one for any need. Steel, stainless
or alloy. 6 or 8 shot. With the 27/327/627 family you do not have
to give up beauty for utility.

Hands down the Model 28. I like guns that are meant to be used and are all business. Second is the Heavy Duty, just pure handgun elegance and purpose of design. Next is probably the 27 (who can't love those beauties?), then probably the 29 series. I like Nframes.....

You'd a asked me a couple years back, even 20 years back, then it would be no question a custom 629-2 I had made up special.

We got a lot of history together, been a lot of places and seen a lot of things.

But life does not stand still, and within the last two years I found a couple more that are four square in the running for best ever.

Here's a 624 ND that's my absolute favorite and a scalpel. I can claim to be a fair shot when I use this one and no one can find fault with that statement. It's the gun - trust me.

Not long after I found the 4" 624, I again found myself in the midst of a lucky score, a 3" 65-5 Ladysmith that's been lovingly worked over by Mag-Na-Port.

I had the opportunity to hold a 19-7 PC and vowed I'd own one some day. Well, this is as close as I'll come and it's not too far off the mark at that.
Of all my S&W's, this one has the most butter smooth double action. I say this with a bit of gravity as all my S&W's are worked on professionally and not a one of them disappoints.

So, you ask which I'd say is a favorite, I'd have to play the parent card and say that I love all my children, but maybe, just maybe, I love these three a bit more.

Without a doubt, the 2.5" 19/66......Why? Because they just look like a Snub Nosed Revolver should......It just can't look any better than it does.....Zebulon

My model 47 Bodyguard Airweight made in 1967. It belong to a local PD Detective. He sold it in the eighties when he retired. I bought it for $225.00. It is the ultimate carry gun. It is the eptiome of form & function. Right behind it is my Model 15 2". Love it!

I don't have any one favorite but here's a couple of top contenders.
#1 A Model 10-5 5" Nickel
I love the simple elegant lines of this revolver.
#2 A Model 48-3 22 MRF with and extra fitted 22 LR cylinder.
Again a simple yet elegant revolver.

Smith has produced a bunch of revolvers in J frame, K frame and L frame that I like equally well. N frames are nice but not my favorites.

My personal all-around favorite S&W would have to be the 3" fixed sight K-frame revolvers in either .38 Special or .357 Magnum, hands down. They handle perfectly for me, tend to have amazing DA pulls right out of the box, and the 3" barrel is, in my opinion, the best compromise between concealability and potential velocity.

If had to choose one it would be my 3" model 64, next in line is my 2" model 15...

I <heart> my 19-2. Shooting .38 Special in it, it is a delightful gun to shoot.

Sometimes you buy a gun just to look at it. Other times it is just because you think it will be a great investment. When I go to the range, the one that always goes with me is my Magna-Ported 696. Beautiful, laser straight, fits in my hand so darn well, fires the .44 Special which, when you shoot it, you will also be addicted.
I have others more expensive, but that is the one I like the best!!

My favorite is my Model 19 with 4" barrel. This was my first revolver bought new back in the early 70's and I will not part with it. I CC it on occasions with an inside the waist holster but it shows absolutely no signs of wear. It is extremely accurate and I used to shoot bullseye with it in the 70's

fyimo, usually I would have a clear cut answer to your question. Until recently, I would have answered quickly that my favorite is the M27-2, 4", nickel. However, the clean and all business look of the fixed sight N frames, have really spoken to me. Right now my favoirite is my 1957 HD. It is not a collectors piece, heck, it has even been re-finished in nickel. It is without a doubt the ugly duckling of my humble accumulation of Smiths, but it is the Smith I find myself showing to my friends as an example of what a real gun should be. If you ask me tomorrow, it may be the M27-2.
