What's YOUR spouses reaction to your new gun?

Mine all generally look alike to my wife. All she knows is that some are black, some are silver, and some have a little wheel that spins.

She asked me once when I got such and such, and I said, "I've had it", and she said, "You always say that!"

Years ago she gave me permission to buy whatever (rifle, shotgun, or handgun) I considered to be a screamin' deal. She'd be in awe if she knew just how far I've taken that!

My wife doesn't care. We both have our hobbies. I didn't say anything when she spent $5k on some high-tech sewing machine for her quilting. She doesn't even ask about my guns and reloading stuff. Back when I was into cowboy/black powder revolver shooting she would say "you're not going to clean that thing in my dishwasher are you?"

Mine has always been cool with it, because in times of need I'm willing to sell off the whole lot.

I bought a house just before the bubble burst in 2008. Seven years later we took a $65,000 loss, and in order for that to go through we had to put on a new roof for the buyers to enjoy. My bride was stressed but I went to the safe and started filling the car with guns I hauled off to put on consignment. I paid for the roof in cash, we got out of the house without writing a check (thanks to a large downpayment when we bought it) and now are in a nicer house in a nicer place.

I buy guns that are undervalued (usually) and there's not a thing in my safe I wouldn't sell. I consider them enjoyable certificates of deposit. Somebody else is going own them all someday anyway, no matter what I do.

Once upon a time I was recently arrived from Mars. I met a young girl from Venus and we got married. Shortly thereafter I discovered that I had to learn more about how girls from Venus talk. It was a challenge. After all, I was from Mars, and she was from Venus!

Slowly I learned. It was a process. When she said she wished we could one day buy a color TV, I thought I heard her say ... one day buy a color TV. So, when I found a nice Winchester 70 at a local bait and tackle shop, I bought it. She did tell me it was OK if that's what I really wanted. Later after language studies, ... Hebrew, Greek and Venus ... I began to understand what she had really been saying was that we needed to save money to buy the TV. Gee! Who'd have thought it!!! But, I learned. It was a process.

Now it is forty years later. I've bought and owned and shot and sold a boat load of guns. On a number of occasions she has been the one who has bought some of those rifles, pistols and lots of ammunition. And for my part, I've not again had to take remedial language classes so that I might better understand what that little girl from Venus means when she says ... wish ... maybe ... I'd like, etc. You know! Sincerely. bruce.
