Personally I believe in "constitutional" carry. No permit, no training, nothing. Strap on your gun and go.
Now, why do I feel this way? Two basic reasons 1. State CCW laws vary so much. From lots of training to virtually none and all. There has been no blood in the streets nor mass wrongful shootings by CCW holders. 2. Many states have open carry laws that require no training. North Carolina, the state I live in , is one such state.
Oh and I forgot one other reason, so I guess it's really three.
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
Now don't take this wrong. I believe in training and personal responsibility. If you carry, concealed or open, it is YOUR responsibility to be proficient with it's use and to know the law concerning it implementation. A one or two day class will not allow someone to retain firearms laws and proper firearms use. A CCW permit holder has to "want" to continue training in firearms use and keep updated in the firearms laws. In my opinion the CCW classes are just "feel good" and money generating requirements for concealed carry. There are laws currently on the books for misuse of a firearm. You do the crime (wrongful shooting), you do the time. Ignorance of the law is no excuse. If you die in a defensive gun use situation because of lack of training or being unfamiliar with your chosen firearm, well, it's your own fault. If you are going to carry take the personal responsibility to train and learn the law.
