When Is Enough Enough?

I didn't have any feeding or ejecting problems with my Victory no matter what ammo brand I was shooting in it. That was until the barrel would come loose after 30 rounds. I didn't want a gun I had to carry an allen wrench when shooting the gun. I bought the o-rings and star washers for it and then Ruger came out with the Mark IV. I bought the MKIV and luckily sold the the Victory rather quickly. I have had no regrets getting rid of the Victory. I explained to the buyer about the Victory barrel problems and it didn't bother him. Win win deal then.
The only ammo my Ruger MK 2 and MK 4 didn't like at all was Aguilar Super Sonics. No problem firing Thunderbolts or any other brand ammo that some say are junk.

A friend has a Walther 22 compact that is a jam-a-matic. Funny it shot the Aguilar Super Sonic better than the other brands. I called Walther about it and I was told I was supposed to be using only high velocity ammo in the gun. I told him I was using high velocity ammo and he didn't seem to care. I don't ever see myself buying a Walther handgun. I felt their customer service lacked any real help.

I hope S&W will give you credit on another gun or refunds your money. I read somewhere that most lemon laws say if an item is returned for warranty repair four times for the same problem then it is considered a lemon and supposedly is to be replaced or money refunded. Supposedly states have different lemon law rules they go by.

This is my wife's gun and since it is always in the mail I bought her a Ruger Mark 4 Hunter and she loves it as it never jams no matter what ammo we use. She gave the Victory to me! I collect all the ammo that the Victory can not fire and put it in the Ruger mag and all of it fires with no issues! We got a lemon and I do not want to mask these issues and dump them on someone else. Once it is corrected I will sell it for a more reliable brand.

It's interesting that Victory issues seem to come up often. I bought a Victory some time ago and I've never had any issues with it. Obviously S&W's quality control is seriously lacking and definitely NOT consistent.

Will never be on my shopping list no matter the price.
Smarten up S&W !!!

I think now would be a good time for the PC Victory guys to get together and determined at what point performance, and QC went awry. List the manufacturing dates for buy and don't buy . JMHO

In my experience, CCI mini-mags are the ultimate test, if it won't run on those it probably isn't going to run on anything. My Victory has been trouble free, just lucky I guess. I would be pushing hard for a refund or replacement.

Buy a Ruger...

Sorry couldn't help myself. :D

While it would be nice if every 22 fired ever brand of ammo, that isn't reality. Some will, some won't. It isn't even manufacturer or model specific. Sometimes it's just that particular gun, as you are experiencing. I've got a Ruger MkIII that simply does not function on bulk Remington or Federal ammo.

Hopefully it gets corrected, as it does sound like something is wrong.

Did you try an HV ammo? I've seen 22s that need a good run of HV ammo before they function smoothly with SV ammo.

What ammo have you used? My experience has been the cheaper the 22 ammo the more firearms I have that malfunction on it.

My Browning 1911-22 fires everything! When buying 22LR I only buy the cheapest bulk 22LR I can find, and they all go bang in that gun!

OP:
hope they can replace/refund on your lemon. I'm about a month into Victory SW22. Although a few small problems, nothing like yours.

I've had many Mfgs of 22 autos over the years. If you want true frustration, get a High Standard that isn't quite right.....

personally I would simply ask for complete refund/replacement.

I'm very pleased with the SW22 and intend on lots of range use. Good luck.

EVERYTHING that the Victory did not shoot I put in my wife's Ruger Mark 4 Hunter and it fired without an issue. When the Victory began having all these issues I bought the Ruger for my wife as the Victory is her firearm. She gave me the Victory and there is no way she would EVER part with the Ruger as it never misfires, not even once, and is deadly accurate! We rapid fire the Ruger, use cheap ammo, and try to make it jam but it does not! But the ammo I usually use is Federal Auto Match which works great in everything. I usually buy it from Academy as there is always free shipping with orders over $49.

The firearm was received and signed for last week. I called today and was told it will go to repair and figure 4 to 6 weeks to complete. I stated that this is not acceptable and need to speak to the person in charge to either refund our $780 or replace the firearm. I was put on hold and then came back and told a supervisor will take action. I then stated that a supervisor was to take action as soon as they received the firearm! That is what I was told last week! Then, here goes, the rep said, what is wrong with the firearm and to attach a letter to the firearm. I stated that the Fedex office that we take it to knows the gun and bubble wraps the letter to the firearm. Answer, oh OK! I will call again tomorrow! MY LAST SMITH as we have Glock's, Sig's, Ruger's, CZ's, Walther's, etc without issues! No shopping around to see what ammo this firearm likes, no jams, absolutely no down-time and NEVER goes to Fedex!

I purchased a new PC Victory that functioned perfectly for the first 700 rounds and then !#*%! It was doing exactly what yours was doing. I would have 3 or 4 FTE and FTF's in every magazine no matter what ammo I fed it. I called Smith and asked them to send a new extractor assembly, under warranty, which they did. That improved it but still had problems.

I did some research and found there were other folks having the same problem. Turns out the fix is to very slightly bend the ejector inward a couple thousandths. It enough to rub the bolt but just a hair. All I can say is it worked and I e only had one FTF in about 1500 rounds. It now feeds and ejects everything I feed it perfectly.

Give it a try if you have more problems. Hope it's fixed.

Another little note, I've had nothing but great service from Smith. They've even repaired revolvers at no charge that I bought used. And on another note I had a 2206 that I bought new in the early 90's. It never functioned properly. I took it to the dealer that I bought it from and supposedly they sent it to Smith for warranty work. Unfortunately they never sent it in and it never functioned properly. 25 years later I pulled it out of the safe and to my dismay it still wouldn't get through a magazine without jamming.

I contacted Smith and they sent a FedEx label. They didn't ask for proof of purchase or anything. A week later I received it back with a new barrel and some other new parts. It worked perfectly without missing a lick. I wound up trading it for a beautiful Winchester 62 but Smith resolved the issue quickly and without question.

Best of luck.

re: S&W repair shop: in the 30+ years I've owned various Smiths, a number have been returned for various reasons. Most often it has been swift & pleasant. Once I shipped it in at the very start of their "6 week factory shutdown" which slowed repair considerably.

A few times I needed a particular "unavailable" screw unless I shipped the whole gun to them. In all, I'm happy with their performance.

Ok, the firearm has been at Smith's for two weeks and when I called, after they signed for it, I was told that it will be on High Alert since this is the third time it was sent back for EXACTLY the same problems! I called today and was told that firearms are first in and first out and that it is somewhere on their conveyor belt heading to the repair department. Not the "High Alert" that I was told! I asked to speak to a supervisor and a few minutes later a rep named Paul stated that the firearm will be pulled by one of their Runners for evaluation. He also stated that there are no Runners there on Monday's and he will call at a later date! I am 70 years old and have been around the block numerous times and this is at the top of the heap regarding horrible customer service. I plan to take the fireatm, when repaired, to my ffl for consignment to sell but I need to assure that it fires perfectly as I do not want the next guy to inherit this nightmare! At one time Smith Wesson was the king of firearms, but as everything else they are just another name in the sea of firearms. The market of firearms and accessories is huge and customer service is paramount regarding repeat purchases from customers. Call Burris, Vortex, Delta Pro, Sig Romeo, Walther, Sig, Ruger, CZ, Beretta, just to name a few and customer service and repair times rule! I realize that my situation is not the norm regarding Smith and Wesson but I just may be one of the few that just got swept under the rug.

threads like this make me feel better about the **** shoot of buying used and surplus items - even new can be a toss up.

Is there a reason you can't just return it for a refund?

Federal Lemon Law. 3rd time for same issue is replacement or refund. Check for your specific state. Some states it is only autos. Mine it also includes all consumer goods.

G.I. Shooter, sorry to hear you are still experiencing problems with this. Once I fixed mine, had the same problem, it shoots anything I put thru it... from CCI to Federal bulk to the dreaded Remington Bucket of Bullets.

Too bad Smith and Wesson doesn't realize the damage they are doing with their lack of attention to things like this.
