I've checked all the gun stores in my area and no one has pachmayrs. Some don't even know what they are. They used to be a staple anywhere guns were sold but for some reason, they're gone. Is this the result of panic buying or are they just going out of style?

Ask at a gun show. Almost all gun nuts have a box of them someplace. Its where they toss them when they acquire a gun that wears them. Then they pay big bucks for a correct pair that makes the gun look nice. Often you can buy a used set for a few bucks. Some sellers will dump the entire box in your lap for a very reasonable sum. Then you can become "Da Man" of goodyear grips.

I think hogue took over, I had to order pachs for my square butt k frame and it took about 3 weeks to show up.

I doubt it's "panic buying"......the pachs have been hard to find (IMO) for years for whatever reason.

I like to use pachmayrs on my "using" guns (especially the heavier calibers) as they fit my hands and are more comfortable than wood stocks or the rubber hogues to me.

I go by the adage....."wood for show, rubber for go" :)

I still prefer the Packhammer's too. Many handguns are shipped with rubber now, Hogues cheaper prices and Pachmayr (pardon the pun) changing hands over the years has made them less popular than before.

I order most of mine from Midway or other online sources.

They are good in the hand shooting, but they look cheesy and another problem someone else pointed out somewhere else is that a shirt or jacket doesnt slide over them like smooth stocks. I do have what you need for a J frame round butt, but I might need them someday.
They are on this model 36 3" in the middle.

My 66-2 came with a Pachmayr Gripper Grip on it (similar to the grip in feralmerrill's in the picture). I don't care for the finger grooves so I started looking for a Pachmayr Presentation Grip. Thought I found one at a gun show so I bought. Guy said it was for a K frame. Got it home and it was like Jr. wearing Daddy's shoes. Turned out it was for an N frame. Looked at a lot of places online that said they were out of stock. Finally got what I wanted from eBay.

Anybody need a finger groove K frame grip or a nice Presentation grip for an N frame? LOL

I have examples of em for almost every model colt or smith made. Many times I have tested my guns off the bench with them on and then put on something else when I clean them and put them away.

ebay............gunbroker............

Yes, the idea that Pachmayr grips are hard to find has me scratching my head. eBay has over 250 sets listed for S&Ws and Gunbroker's got 100+, not to mention they seem to pop up weekly here in the Classifieds, etc. They're everywhere.

I might try "Midsouth Shooter Supply", again ." They certainly had the decelerator grip and forearm for the old - style T/C Contender. ( just last month... they are pretty rare.)

Few gun stores seem to carry the inventory they once did.

Pachmayr changed their design to a type that is one-piece, open down the front. You have to shove it on the frame. I prefer the older two-piece sort, and they feel better, too.

I've had to buy at shows, where prices range from maybe $3.00 to $15.00, depending on who has them and if they're new in box. Occasionally, I get lucky and buy a used gun with a nice set of Pachs on it.

I normally prefer the Presentation or the P. Compac (for J-frames) but put Grippers on my GP-100, because they're all that I found that fit the frame right and also fit me. I tried three sets of Uncle Mike's and none fit the gun right. I do like Uncle Mike's on S&W's, but they quit making them. I can't get used to Hogue's; they don't feel quite right in my hand. May try their small ones on an SP-101. Some say they cut recoil effect, a real plus on a small .357.

I gave up on fancy grips as so few really fit the frame right without custom inletting, which I can't do or afford. And I don't want to send my guns to a stockmaker.

Other than Pachmayr, my grip preference is for older S&W smooth rosewood grips, with dark wood having even darker streaks. If they're service/Magna stocks, they get a Tyler adaptor. I have a set of Magnas for a square butt J-frame that feel wonderful with the Tyler. (NO, NO, NO, they are NOT for sale.)

I find very few grips that really fit my hand as well as the Pachmayr Presentation, with Uncle Mike's being a close second. It is worth noting that custom gripmaker Craig Spegle (sp?) designed the Uncle Mike's.

I don't think of my Pachmayrs in Goodyear terms. I see them more as Pirelli's top line. And they don't scuff or dent as wooden grips will. And they stay put in my sweaty hands as I check out sounds where nothing or nobody is supposed to be. I did a lot of that back when I wore a badge. Still have to, thankfully a lot less often.

I bought my M-66-3 new in box in 1990, with a very nice set of target Goncala alves grips on it. They reside in the box. I immediately put P. Presentations on it and they are still there. (I do want to keep the factory stocks; please don't ask to buy them.)
