Where are the Shield Plus Magazines?

Plus

Three 13 round magazines were delivered to me from Hoffmans monday.
They were shipped fast and packed well. They were just as advertised brand new,and perfect condition.
And the price was reasonable at $35 per mag plus $12 shipping.
Magazines are out there that are reasonably priced.
Thanks Hoffmans for being an honest dealer.

M&P Shield Plus 13+ Magazine

C'mon man. It has been way too long since the pandemic and I have owned my Shield Plus for 8 months Why can't I find ANY magazines for this gun let alone the 13 round mag. I mean NOONE has them in stock. C'mon S&W, you can't possibly be that backlogged that after 6 months, you can't put anything on the shelves. Does anyone have any updates. I love this gun, yet I flush mag and an extended mag isn't enough.

This started to be funny...

Perhaps S&W can use explanation from automobile market:
"production was hit by the pandemic and related problems including the chip shortage" :D

Just spoke with Smith on the phone ... no mags coming yet

It's always a pleasure to speak with the courteous staff at Smith & Wesson. Because Midway is out of stock, I purchased a sufficient quantity of spare mag springs from Smith today, hedging against the coming dollar decline so that my mag needs are covered for another 12 years (that's about how long it took for my Glock mag springs to weaken and start causing FTFeed).

But that's another topic isn't it. I meant to say that while on the phone with Smith, I asked if there's any hope coming for us to be able to buy Shield Plus mags.

Alas, they said no. They have no firm date yet when spare magazines will be available. In the meantime, I've bought two spare Shield Plus weapons just to get my hands on more 13rd mags. I simply will not pay over $100 for a mag on GT etc.

@LVSteve ...

I say "no way" ... I will not be patient. Other than holsters which Smith does not make, what's one of the most common accessories for any pistol? Extra magazines.

smith has no trouble supplying mags for new guns, at my local shooting range they have 10 or more on the shelf, and more stock comes in every week or so to keep up with the demand for new pistols.. so... what's the hold up?

I am seeing more and more Plus's on the shelves. Local dealer had 7 on the shelf at his store. Academy had several on display and more in the back. I believe the supply has about caught up the demand (at least in my area). Time to get some magazines out to dealers. Love the gun but hate the lack of magazines.

What makes you think Smith makes their own Mags? They don't.
The mags they have in stock are allocated to New Shield Plus packages. When they get mags from MecGar, they will pass them on to the distributers. MecGar may even ship the spare mags straight to the distributers.

If these mags are produced overseas in Italy (i believe that is the case) then import delays and issues will affect their flow here. If European factories and ports are dealing with even a % of the problems Asian locations are; well then no surprise if deliveries and stock levels are late and low.
I have to deal with importing delays on a daily basis from Asia, not to mention the high costs of freight both inbound and domestically. It truly sucks on many levels, but delays and high prices currently are the norm. And something that isn’t going to magically correct itself overnight.
Patience seems to be in low supply these days, but a little can go a long way.
Just my .02

Mec-Gar customer service just sent me this response to the question of when or if we will be able to buy Plus mags.

"Mec-Gar Italy makes the tube for S&W but nothing else for the magazines. Unfortunately, We don’t sell them ourselves."

I bought a Shield Plus in July and haven’t shot it yet so I can wait for mags.

Sorry - I should have explained better. This particular place (the only one fairly near to me) is a combination pawn shop / gun store and indoor firing range. I assume they are trying to minimize the chance of an armed robbery.

I am sure a armed robber would follow the rules.

The lack of extra magazines isn't that big of a deal. The range near me requires that all firearms be locked open and all magazines unloaded before entering. So whether I have to load two magazines several times or several magazines once, it's not that much of a difference. I certainly didn't let the current lack of spare mags keep me from buying a Shield Plus when I wanted one. They'll be available eventually.

Well, most of us didn’t buy it for the range, and our ranges allow us to have our mags loaded and pistols holstered or in a bag. I guess it depends where you live.

I bought the gun to carry, and still hope at some point to do that. And I’ll say it for the 999th time and I frankly don’t give a **** who doesn’t like it…this pistol was sold with the increased capacity being the number one value. Otherwise the Shield 1.0 or 2.0 are exactly the same gun. So not having mags for sale after more than 6 months is malpractice.

Ok I will ask the question, how does higher factory mag capacity equate to requiring add’l mags being made available? Yes the Plus is marketed as having increased capacity. Cool. So it holds more in one mag regardless if the owner has 2 mags or 20. My full size MP holds twice what my Shield does, all the extra mags do not alter that fact. They just add to the range experience and in some instances carry options.
The entire world is on backorder, and it may not be “your ideal situation” that you only have the mags that came with the gun. Plenty can not get what they want right now, hopefully that will change. And soon. But frankly it is what it is, until the day stock shows up on shelves. Constant venting won’t speed up the supply.

For me what made the desire to buy the one I have is the ever so slightly wider grip. Didn’t like the original Shield I had but when I picked up the Plus I knew it was coming home.

I always carry a spare mag regardless of the pistol. Yes I want to get at least one more but it doesn’t bother me in the least I have to wait.

Just one man’s view.

Maybe you stated once before and I missed it...
How many mags to you need on your body in order to feel you can carry? 23 rounds (10 + 13) isn't enough in your neighborhood?
