For the sake of conversation, Let us say over the past few years I have purchased several guns at Burg and Keith's, Cajun Hand Ejector Gun Shop.
Due to unspecified reasons, (there have been rumors), the business went Tango Uniform.

What is done with all the forms and records regarding the guns they had sold, and the people that bought them.
Just curious.

Best,
Gary

When a FFL closes down thier recorded are sent to ATF center in Martinsburg, WV

When a dealer closes all records go to the ATF records center in WV. They stack 'em and keep them for running traces....they are not on computers however. I believe that is due more to funding issues than anything else, seem to recall that they wanted to computerize them a few years ago. Congress wouldn't authorize the funds. If I remember correctly, partly due to the expense plus opposition to creating what would amount to the beginning of a registration system. As is, the records are there but have to be manually searched and, of course, the older they get the less usefull they are as many guns change owners multiple times over the years.

Congress won't authorize much funding for better record keeping ,,but it's for a microfiche system used there.
Some are on the system, most are still stacked on shelves.

As much as they'd like to, they are not allowed by law to make a computerized system of the records as it would be considered a national registry of firearms and would be in violation of the 68GCA.
That's already been through the courts.
They had to get court permission to go to microfische. That step alone wasn't looked upon positively by pro 2A supporters.

Oh. I thought you were talking about, like, a 78rpm version of Peggy Sue.

:D How many people (kids) even know what that is? My stepkids don't, I asked them once and they just looked at me funny and called me old. They're 18 & 21, I'm >50

When I closed up and retired 1998, it cost me close to $50. to UPS my records to the BATF.
