Where or How Did You Propose Marriage

First, I asked her father for her hand in marriage. I was on the tee box when I called my future FIL and he spoke about how his daughter is her own person and she would have to make the decision. I guess FIL did not understand this was a rhetorical question.

The day she received her masters in Architecture, I drop to one knee and asked her.

She asked me. Or more accurately, told me that I had better step up to the plate. I should have known better, although I did go to a gun show on the day I was married so I have that happy memory.
Now I'm divorced, making about 50% more money and spending it on guns instead of paying off the 1 carat near flawless diamond that I was suckered into buying for her.

Barb,
My Wife and I do nearly the same thing. Working two different shifts, one a 6-day one a 5-day?
I'm starting to think it's key to a lasting relationship? The only reason she can still stand me after 21 years is 'cause she rarely has to see me!

My wounderful Bride of 26 years TOLD me we were getting hitched. At that time, she just loved HER Marine in dress blue's. Fantastic ole gal then, still is now......

Christmas morning, 1966. I showed up with a ring, dropped to one knee and asked. She cried, grabbed me, kissed me a lot, and said yes.

It was something her folks and my folks had expected (and probably had talked about; they all were practical old traditionalists), and my mom had been making strongly-pointed comments for several months. She even suggested I cash in my life-insurance policy to buy the engagement ring.

Hands down, best decision I ever made in my life. Don't want to ask whether she would agree with that. We'll be married 43 years and counting (we both figure it's forever) come July 9.

Blessings to everyone else who has found a life-mate forever! I know I sure have!

Asked her out to our favorite rooftop jazz club where a surprise was set up, but she had another headache (that should have been a clue); so I kneeled under the Christmas tree in her apartment instead. I have since lost any fear of hell.

Met my bride September 20, 1969 while stationed at Fort Devins MA. I was 17 she 18. I asked her to marry me New Years Eve of 69 in her "Parlor", that's MA-speak for living room I think (?). Shipped out to Turkey on January 21st but got home on leave in time for the July 19th wedding. It will be 39 years this July but we celebrated in Las Vegas this week as it is a lot cooler now.

Funny you should mention that Bassamatic?
We were married out on the W/side of the Olympic peninsula in a gazebo at the lodge we were staying at by a justice of the peace.

I was home on leave at Christmas. Packaged the ring in a series of boxes one smaller than the other. When she opened the final box she smiled and nodded yes. Her parents weren't surprised and neither was mine. Marriage had to wait I was still the military and she was in college. There has never been a moment of doubt married forty years. Yesterday we celebrated the birth of another grandchild.

Sitting in my '69 Camaro Z28. Still married and going strong after 36 years. Wish I had kept that car, too.

Pretty much like sureshotbob. Everything felt right so I put the ring box next to her head and she cried and said yes. We called our parents. My mom and dad were ecstatic as was her mom. Her dad (A 6'2 250 pound biker whos a black belt in 2 martial arts)screamed into the phone, "He didnt knock you up did he?" My FIL and I dont really get along still but 5 years later and we're still happy.

I asked my wife on Christmas in my Mom's living room. I put the ring inside a box which was inside a bigger box. I was scared to death she was going to say no. I was working a part time job doing security at a medical manufacturing plant to pay for that ring.

I proposed to Eleanor in 1960 in my Nash Rambler station wagon. Told her I drink beer & chew tobacco. If that's OK lets get married. We married in Reno, had 3 kids. Stayed married for 27 years till her death in 1987. Good woman.

LOL... my wife has never let me live this down. I didn't even really propose... it was more like a rambling thought that I said out loud over the phone during a long distance call. I never did get on one knee and ask her to marry me. It was more like... well, I have thought about us getting married... and... well... I don't think its such a bad idea. That was 20 years ago last January. Our 20 year wedding anniversary is this August 19th.

I proposed to mamabear at Max Yasgur's dairy farm in Bethel, New York in August of 1969 at Woodstock.
I had been discharged from the Army in '67 and after living on the left coast for a little over a year I moved back to PA. Bought an Indian, rebuilt the bike, and was living the good life.
I heard a radio broadcast about Woodstock and told my future better half I was going to Woodstock and if she wanted to spend some time in the sidecar she could come along.
We had a great time, I think, and I was told I proposed there. We must have found goooood stuff.
We'll be celebrating our 40th this year.

At the beach. York, Maine. It was kind of lame. She already had seen the ring being as how she designed it with the jeweler.

It was just a formality at that point. We drove home at the end of the day, bought a bottle of fake champaign, and told the parents. Basically, their take was, "It's about time!" I had previously spoken with her father, as well. He asked me if I was sure I knew what I was getting in to.

Through the good and the bad I would not change a thing. Been married 13 years this summer but been together 21 years this spring.

I proposed to Linda at the California State Fair at Cal-Expo in August of 1990. I had it planned. We had a great day at the fair and towards the end of the day I asked her to wait for me at a picnic table that was just outside the Beer Garden. she was mad that I was going to leave her alone there, but I told her that I would be back in just a minute. I ran up near the enterance where there was a vendor selling roses. I bought one (didn't have a ring). Came back with it hidden behind my back. She was still mad. I gave her the rose and popped the question. Her mad face turned into the biggest smile I think I have ever seen. She said yes, although the wedding itself never happened for reasons I won't go into here.

In April of 1998 I was living with Wendy when my father got sick. I was able to get the time off work and went to Yakima Washington to be with him and help my step-mother. I was gone for three weeks. I missed her very much during this time. The night of my return I asked her to marry me on one knee while she sat on the living room couch, with a "Leave it to Beaver" rerun playing on the TV behind me. She said yes. We married on Y2K day at Liberty United Methodist Church just outside of Granger Washington. this was my church when I was growing up. The Pastor who was my pastor while I was a youngster, came out of retirement to perform the ceremony.

after dating off and on for almost 4 years, on her 27th birthday in 2001 on 1 knee at Donner lake. we were going to Reno for the weekend "for her birthday" 8 years ago next saturday. she is still kinda bent i didnt call her dad in TN and ask him if it was ok. i didnt have his number !
but he accepted me anyway.
i promptly found out i was getting laid off the next week so that set things back a bit financially for me.
we didnt get married for 2+ more years until September 03. and several times during our engagment she took it off and threw it at me. hasnt done it since the wedding though.

side story: i had bought a ring off ebay for $500 that had an ok diamond and real platinum setting. i decided it was bad juju to give her a ring that clearly was used and some guy was heartbroken over. so i ended up getting a new and larger stone. i brought it along and pawned it in reno for 3x what i paid and the pawns hop guy probly turned around and tripled that. oh well my little bit if stimulus for the NV economy. i think that was a trip that shot full auto the 1st time at a indoor range taht rented class 3
